Sarawak Premier announces special aid for civil servants, retirees and media practitioners
KUCHING (Dec 3): Sarawak civil servants will receive Special Financial Assistance (BKK) equivalent to two months’ salary, based on their November 2025 basic pay, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said the incentive is a gesture of appreciation for the continued dedication of the state’s public officers in implementing government policies and initiatives across both urban and rural areas.
“The GPS government records its highest appreciation to all members of the Sarawak Civil Service who remain committed to implementing government policies and initiatives, whether in urban or rural areas.
“Their hard work and sincerity are the backbone of our inclusive and sustainable development programmes,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.
Abang Johari added that the BKK payment, which will be disbursed this month, is expected to involve RM131 million.
He also noted that the state’s implementation of the second phase of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) salary adjustment — a 7 per cent increase effective Jan 1, 2026 — will involve an additional RM56 million.
Abang Johari also announced a RM700 one-off Special Financial Assistance for all Federal civil servants serving in Sarawak throughout 2025.
The payment will be made in the first quarter of 2026 and is expected to involve RM98 million.
To recognise the contributions of retired state civil servants, Abang Johari said the GPS government has agreed to provide a one-off RM500 assistance to each Sarawak state pensioner, amounting to a total allocation of RM50 million.
On a related matter, acknowledging the contributions of the media, Abang Johari said professional and consistent reporting has had a significant impact on Sarawak’s socio-economic development.
“As a mark of appreciation for their contributions, the GPS government will provide a one-off RM700 incentive to private media practitioners registered with six media associations in Sarawak as of Dec 1, 2025,” he said.
Abang Johari emphasised the government’s responsibility to manage state resources prudently and with long-term vision.
“Our responsibility is to manage our resources with trust, prudence and foresight — so that future generations will inherit a more prosperous, more sustainable and more stable Sarawak than what we have today.”
He added that Sarawak’s governance and development model is increasingly being recognised by other Malaysian states, noting recent visits from Penang, Kelantan, Selangor, Perak and Pahang to learn from Sarawak’s strategic planning and administration.
