How poisoning occurs

-Defective or stolen catalytic converter: If the converter is stolen or damaged, the exhaust gases are not properly processed, and toxic carbon monoxide can be released.

-Exhaust leaks: Holes or cracks in the exhaust system before or after the catalytic converter can allow carbon monoxide to leak into the vehicle's cabin. This is a risk in vehicles with damaged exhaust pipes, mufflers, or body panels.

-Enclosed spaces: Running a car in a garage or other enclosed area is dangerous because exhaust gases can build up, even with the catalytic converter working correctly.

-Tailpipe obstruction: If a vehicle's tailpipe is blocked by snow or other debris, carbon monoxide can accumulate inside the vehicle.
