proven fake

• There have been fake versions of a purported “1999 letter” circulating — one claiming Mahathir asked Barak for funds (e.g. from “the Clinton Fund”) to resist “Islamic fundamentalists” in Malaysia. Those versions have been declared false. 
• Mahathir himself — as recently as 2023 — denied writing such a “request-for-funds” letter, calling those circulating documents “fake”. 
• The “real” 8 June 1999 letter, as released, does not request funds; rather it expresses a hope that Israel will honour peace agreements for the sake of Palestinians.
