FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) has been given a three-day period from the date of service of the notice of trespass on 10 plantations covering approximately 15,000 hectares, effective today, to remove its movable assets.
Terengganu State Committee on Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Food Security and Commodities chairman, Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim, said that after the period expires, the seizure process will commence under Section 425 of the National Land Code, and all seized items will become the property of the state authorities.
He said the period of negotiation and mutual agreement between the state government and the top management of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) over the long-standing issue, which has persisted for 40 years, ended yesterday.
Media reports yesterday said that Felda failed to respond to demands for a 30 per cent share of the profits from state-owned land that has been developed over the past four decades.
"The notices were served simultaneously today to the management of FGV's 10 plantations in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun and Hulu Terengganu.
"Notice boards have been installed in the areas concerned, covering 127 land lots," he said when met during the notice installation at the FGV Setiu Plantation Office in Kampung Air Sejuk, here, today.
Azman said that after the seizure process, compound actions will be taken against those involved for trespassing on state land.
"We will also file civil suits to claim compensation for losses incurred by the state government throughout the duration of this issue.
"In addition, criminal proceedings will be enforced as Section 425 of the National Land Code constitutes a criminal offence," he said.
He added that the notice was also sent to all members of FGV's board of directors.
"This marks the beginning of the legal action previously announced, following Felda management's repeated delays regarding this issue.
"The state government has allowed ample time for discussions, but there was no positive response, and every negotiation has its limit," he said.
