They couldn't make cheap EVs at this moment because it's their first ever EV developed from scratch so they couldn't push the price down due to many factors including new parts, supply chain efficiency, lack of scale and so on. Even Tesla started with higher end Model S and Model X before targeting mainstream customers with Model 3 and Model Y so I would say give Perodua more time. Likewise, Proton also started with eMas7 before launching eMas5. Let's hope they could come out with a budget model in the not too distant future!
No chance for Perodua or Japan brands when it comes to EV which basically donimant by Tesla and Chinese brands. Tesla make the car like Apple while Chinese brands are like Android with full pack of features at low price. Proton backed up by Geely is one of top tier in making EV and rebadge the Geely model. Geely also own the Zeekr, Volvo car & Smart which selling in Malaysia. Since Perodua QV-E already launched in Malaysia, how this vehicle market to our neigbour countries and what is the projection of sales volume? In China the Geely group is selling million of vehicle for their EV and this bring down the cost. For Perodua they can't even compete with their smallest brands in term of volume, without protection from our government the Perodua will remain uncompetitive at all.
