Japan has denied muslim requests for cemeteries affirming cremation is the tradition,  they have to go back to their own countries if they want burials.

Japan has rejected demands for new Muslim cemeteries, prioritizing its cremation practices and land conservation efforts over accommodations for the nation's small Islamic community.

House of Councillors member Mizuho Umemura, representing the conservative Sanseito party, denied the request saying, "cremation is the norm" telling muslims to send the remains back to their home countries for burial.

The country maintains about 10 burial sites nationwide—none in key regions like Tohoku or Kyushu—because of concerns over groundwater contamination and scarce arable land.

She took the moment to talk about a nationwide ban on burials altogether, arguing that the ban would protect agricultural water sources.

For Muslims, who number around 350,000, cremation violates Islamic tenets prohibiting the destruction of the body before resurrection.

Umemura said the country is happy to welcome skilled workers but not at the expense of their core values, and culture.

the issue with the "cheap" japan housing is that theyre insanely expensive to maintain eventho upfront cost is affordable

most people decline owning the house cause japanese gomen taxes them to hell with all sorts of nonsensical fees

That depend which region and prefectures of Japan.

Some place is cheap and some is expensive.

Of course you don't go look for sky high like Tokyo or Osaka.

thats the problem also, no? cause in rural areas the folks dont earn alot compared to the city folks

so while the house price and taxes are lower, they still cant afford it le

No. There is many rich retirees stay away from city. The problem is once they pass away, the kids don't want to take over. Either sell or leave it rot.

Some of this retired old men have health problem and they shift to stay with their kid in city or Old Fork. Then the house is abandoned.

If the house is in rural resort land and nice enviroment, the kid will use it as a holiday house.

not wrong, but partial of the abandoned housing issue

and my point exactly, the kids dont want take over and one of the reasons are the taxes or maintenance costs are too high etc. so ofc they want the house, but they cannot pay the taxes/fees that comes with it unless they go into generational debt

in 2025 every religion has to adapt lah
no religion likes cremation lah...especially chinese
but chinese still adapted to cremation due to lack of land and being really expensive these days

everybody has to adapt, nobody is special these days...there's only that many land out there...and u have to choose what you use it for
*
Adaptation will be there, but the burial of their dead members is a non negotiable requirement.

That if the house is in an expensive region.

Actually such story is same like here in our kampung rural area. Some of this kampung house abandon or sell once the old parent pass away. Land and door tax is not expensive.

Japan is super aging society and declining population. What that means is that many rural areas just don’t have enough people especially young one’s to perform duties to keep a village or small city running. When old residents die no young people want to buy because they can’t make a living there.

Got videos of angmoh tempted to buy such houses but after a while the reality of how difficult and expensive it is to live out there without services hits them.

this issue arise globally
every country got those high growth rate virus that spread very fast
but many countries failed to contain them
now japan with cremation rate of 99.98%, are going to amend law and compromise to those 0.02%?

giving land to immigrants just because they grow bigger and demand this and that in the name of religion, I don't think Japan will agree, this female law maker is pushing the issue harsh and right

when you in other people house, you follow other people rule
