Hi all,

I’m wondering if there are any ceiling downlights that are less glaring. My current downlights is too glaring (for me). The lights are for bedroom and living room.

My current ones are as follows, I still find it very glaring even though it says eye comfort:








Does anyone have recommendations for:

Low-glare / anti-glare downlights

Softer, more comfortable lighting for relaxing areas



Appreciate any suggestions or brands to look out for. Thanks!

Anyway, for household it's best not to use these downloghts. It just make house look like office. Choose warm white instead of white or cool white

If you must use, consider e27 screw in type as it's much easier to change

what do you suggest? Are there any options other than LED?

I find warm white very glaring as well tbh.

Instead of having high lumen, getting something lower. Even 5 watt will be good enough

Glare is measured in UGR, all flush downlights like the ones you posted have a beam angle of 100-120Deg and UGR >22.
These DL are designed to make the room "feels" bright. These range are usually under the consumer series.

For low glare look for those deep recessed type (though not easy to find and it is more expensive) that has a beam angle of 60Deg. These are usually semi-pro or professional series.

Alternatively eyeballs will definitely have lower glare as compared to flush downlights. If you already have cutout holes for those DL you mentioned, eyeballs will require a plaster ceiling patch up as the openings are much small, from 70-90mm only.
