https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...n-bribery-probe QUOTE MACC to summon Tei, Shamsul in bribery probe Chief commissioner Azam Baki says the agency will immediately investigate Albert Tei’s claim that he gave bribes to the former senior aide to the prime minister. Controversial businessman Albert Tei claimed to have spent RM629,000 on Shamsul Iskandar Akin, including on renovations for properties linked to the PKR man, as well as premium cigars and custom suits. PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will launch immediate investigations into controversial businessman Albert Tei’s claim that he gave multiple bribes to PKR’s Shamsul Iskandar Akin. Shortly after Shamsul announced his resignation as the prime minister’s senior political secretary, Malaysiakini quoted Tei as claiming he had spent RM629,000 on the former, including on renovations for properties linked to the PKR man, as well as premium cigars and custom suits. MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency would summon Tei and Shamsul to record their statements. “In addition, MACC will call all other relevant parties for the purpose of gathering the necessary evidence. “The public is advised not to engage in any speculation about this matter and to allow MACC the space to conduct its investigation as well as collect statements and evidence related to these allegations,” he said in a statement. Shamsul quit as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s senior aide yesterday, citing attempts to attack him through controversies which he said could have a negative impact on the government’s image. Shortly after Shamsul’s resignation, Tei was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini that the RM629,000 he spent on Shamsul included renovations, furnishings and appliances for properties connected to the PKR man. Tei also shared screenshots of WhatsApp conversations where Shamsul allegedly requested foreign currency from the businessman before travelling overseas. In June, Tei was charged with two counts of giving bribes to two assemblymen involving the Sabah mining scandal. Former Tanjung Batu assemblyman Andi Suryady Bandy and former Sindumin assemblyman Dr Yusof Yacob were charged with receiving RM150,000 and RM200,000 in bribes, respectively. p.s. jangan naik grab, unless want family to get 10k daily. |
