Fully Operating 5th gen by 2040
Still need to filled the gap left by MIG29N, MB339 and soon Hawk.
Hence the interim solution paving the way.

MB339 and HAWK not filled by FA50 in light attack/fighter/trainer role?

It is the government cabinet meeting who will decide what to buy. Not the army.

1st gen was roughly the 40s and early 50s.
2nd gen roughly the late 50s to the 60s
3rd gen from 60s to the 70s
4th gen was the 80s until late 90s and most has been upgraded to 4.5 gen and is operating since the early 00s.

The first 5th gen was produced in 97 and formally in service only in 2005. The F22 is only expected to be replaced as the premier USAF fighter by the F-47 in 2030.

That means 6th gen planes will be flying at least until 2055, which is when the first 7th gen planes start trials. And most likely later than that as each fighter jet generation has taken longer and longer to replace. Even the fifth- gen F35 is planned for operation until 2070. Malaysia being one or two gen behind is fine for a country our size.

that is the timing without China in the equation.

with china speed.

maybe 2035 will see Gen7 test fly already for both USA and China.

when got competitor, everything will go very fast.

Given mof budget allocation and medium term risks assessment, anti ship capability should has higher priority than air superiority.

between, even we get Gen5 jet, is waste of money and pointless.

cause what important is complete sync system,
only jet fighter = suicide

Pak vs Barat case already best mirror.

What F-22? They are not for export. SU57 is gen 5/6, still not enough made for export as local Rusky AF pon xcukup. Best bet is kimchi, sushi and US F35D (detuned) or ikea saab.
Bharat and turki can buang dlm laut.

malaysia might run into money issue to buy and maintain. 5th gen is a make up of many systems, just the fighter plane itself cost a fortune. The cheapest to maintain will still be the SU-57, it is not really full stealth because the real RAM coating is extremely expensive and maintainance nightmare, the Russian has to cut corners due to war and limited research
