OK, I've slagged off Malaysian driving standards before in another thread, and perhaps de Guv heard me (or us) and decided to do something about it.
But man - what they've done is insane. My kid wants to get his driving licence, so he has to (?) do training at a driving school. We did some research online, and I'm gobsmacked at the results.
These driving schools are advertising courses that are 6 to 12 months long (WTF!!) and costing from 1,500RM up to 3,500RM!! What kind of insanity is this? 6 months to learn how to drive a car? You know you can get a Private Pilots License in 6 WEEKS if you want! A Commercial Pilots License can be done in12 Months!
When I did my own driving license I did about 4 weeks of driving school - about 10hrs in total. Who the hell gave these 'schools' this license to print money, off the backs of aspiring road users? Please tell me how to get around this nonsense - and I don't mean bribery, that too stinks in this system of BS.

6-12 is not 24/7 days all. It's in course of that time line. Get the 1st hand details. The cost range also not 1 time pay. Oh I not driving school ppl. Nor I do know any1 from that school.

it depends on skill la

those with inborn skill, less sessions required

i can rmbr the bukitmak test, i only ever rolled down once (not during my first attempt, duno how it happened) , and always managed to stop at the peak
i seen before some ppl overshot la, mati enjin la, etc etc.
hence, i only required 10 hrs minimum and i passed with like 42 or 43 points (one of it bcoz i forgot to signal at the last turning kek)

the only thing difficult for me was memorizing the routes , my sohem instructor kept using route A because it was convenient for him to drop me home, but routes B and C i not so sure, on the day of test, i kena route c or something like that luckily my memory didnt fail me.

basically , those ppl who had those funny shenanigans would have required more sessions, but of course, who doesnt like some coffee...

some ppl can even fail at the three point turn test. which is like the most no brainer part of the test.

that's why u see so many ppl driving ridiculously
cant even keep to their lane
see ppl turning into their lane while theyre far away, speed up and honk.

sohai.

TLDR: if u have inborn ability,10 hrs is enough. if u dont, then u need 20,30,40 also not enough ,because u see some sohai driving so long still drive like sohai

No lah... my daughter did it last year 16 hours and it was 2 sessions of 8 hours. End of first day sudah ask her to drive home from the practice grounds!

I macam no believe they can do it over two sessions and asked for 2 extra sessions of 2 hours each.

The amount of shortcut - 20+ years ago was 2 hours per session, at least you get time to digest your mistakes and how you can do better next time, the one my daughter went thru was too intensive, in my opinion la....

Edit : Daughter passed after 2 tries - now after 1 year, she has not much situational awareness - few times almost accident were it not for other drivers' defensive driving and car passengers alert her. Nasib baik I don't have a white car for her to drive.

Here's an update - we went to a locally recommended driving school. They say he can do his Theory and Test in 2 days and can be done next week. BUTTTTT after passing the Theory Test he must wait SIX MONTHS to start driving training!!!
The reason?
So busy lah!
BUTTTT...if we pay for the more expensive 'package'....delay will only be THREE MONTHS!!!
AAAAANDDD.....If we pay for the TOP EXPENSIVE package....can do lessons tomorrow!!! WTF.
This is all just a big bloody scam - trying to screw more money out of people for the same course (all 16 or 18 hrs instruction ONLY) by creating obstacles and asking more money to skip the queue.

We want to find a freelance approved instructor. No other way to do this without having massive delays or expense.
