you will need to show your IDs (passport) and also a reason why you want to open an account there - like employment details / offer letter stating how company will credit your salary (need local bank account etc) |

On this year May i walk in to bank at Chiang Mai enquire this. Due to recent rule changes and updates, tourist visas are no longer allowed to be used to open a bank account. You can only do this if you have another type of visa, like an Elite, Retirement, or Student visa. Even that nomad visa not allow as well. Keep in mind that even with a Student visa, you still need to stay there and check in with immigration every 90 days. only available for Preferred customer and still need to go to TH to complete it
![]() TH still lacking in terms of technology based from the Google AI reply Generally cannot open a Thai bank account from Malaysia because most traditional Thai banks require an in-person visit to a branch for account opening, even for non-resident accounts. The only way to open an account is to physically go to Thailand with the required documents, which typically include a valid non-immigrant visa and a passport, along with proof of purpose of entry like a work permit, notes from Tripadvisor. An alternative is to open an online multi-currency account with a service like Wise, which allows you to hold and manage Thai Baht from Malaysia, explains Wise. |
