I rarely go to the electronics section in shopping malls but saw this yesterday at Lotus. A 65" TV can be had for less than RM2k these days, for just RM1799 and another model at RM1999. It's not that I am in the market for a TV or am interested in this model but am fascinated that large screen TVs can be had at these prices. It's cheap nowadays.

The next question is who will actually buy these TVs as the 'branded' ones from more established names such as Hisense are also not too far behind with selling prices around RM2k+ or up to 3k. Of course if you want better such as Samsung or Sony you need to pay more but looking at these prices, it's quite amazing that big screen TVs have reached a record low these days. Perhaps I am out-of-date as these TVs may have been selling at these prices since earlier last year.

Yes, though about ~RM500 cheaper than the 'branded' Hisense 65" for those who are really on a tight budget and can't cough up the extra money for higher quality sets.

It's just a fascination that 65" TVs although from a 'less-known' brand can be had for less than RM2k these days. I thought the Hisense is already cheap, the last I checked was RM2.3k thereabouts for a 65" model, but this one really takes the cake.

Good to know, I'll take note and will disregard Samsung TVs. Anyway, I'm a fan of Hisense TVs since they are cheap and good quality. My current 55" Hisense TV is close to 7 years old already if not more, and it's still going strong. Great 4K picture quality! Only the remote control failed but a cheap replacement remote can be bought online cheaply so it's a small issue.

I see, good to know. There are always some disadvantages with these cheap TVs. Apart from unknown reliability and presumably worse picture quality, it is useful to note that the UI is poor.

Perhaps these TVs may be popular or suitable to be bought and donated to old-folks home or some other centres where quality takes a back seat.

My Hisense 55" TV is almost 8 years old, and it's still going strong although at times I wanted it to kick the bucket so that I could upgrade to a 65". Seems like it's not willing to give up the ghost yet.

Very likely same brand, Hisense as it's one of the 'branded' TVs that is very affordable, about RM2.5k for a 65" the last time I checked. It's proven to be reliable as the current 55" Hisense I bought 7+ years ago did not give me any problems apart from the remote control where few buttons failed to function after about 5 years. I think it may likely go on until 10 years so I may not have any chance to upgrade to a 65" too soon.

I presume you have paid more to extend the warranty to 5 years, perhaps due to the previous experience. Since I have not experienced any premature failure with all my previous and current TVs, for me 1 year warranty which I believe is standard would be sufficient. I was fortunate that all the TVs I bought last very long, more than 10 years before giving up the ghost. Perhaps branded so they last long. The last TV I had before the Hisense was a Samsung plasma 55" which lasted close to 12 years if not more. This current Hisense is 7+ years and will likely go up to 10 years or beyond. So from this pattern you can see we rarely change TVs.

Good to know. Those days we pay a premium for any of these large screen Plasma TVs so people would blow up in flames of fire if they fail just after 1 or 2 years. Nowadays TVs are relatively cheap so it's not so much of an issue even if they fail sooner but of course, the longer the better.

It's amazing your Panasonic plasma is still working after 20 years. My Samsung plasma gave up after about 12 years. My next 65" will likely be a Hisense costing ~RM2.5k. It's amazing a pair of my IEMs can actually buy 2 units of this 65" TV. Big screen TVs are no longer a luxury as they used to be back in the day.

I can understand, for people who are into movies and put picture quality or TV as top priority, it is just natural for them to consider better models which cost higher. However, for me TV is not that important as I rarely watch blockbuster movies on the big screen. I spend more on other things or hobbies which I enjoy more. I usually just watch the news on TV3 at 8.00pm and normal free channels such as NTV7, NTV9 etc. As a matter of fact I've tried high-resolution movies on the Hisense before, downloaded files between 7GB up to 20GB+ and although it's not OLED it's quite spectacular already for my standards. I think the last time I watched a downloaded high-resolution movie was 2 or 3 years ago which was long time ago.

The main attraction of the Hisense is the low price and reliability since it's tested for me, 7+ years still going strong.

Maybe I should consider 75", will see how it goes. 75" can qualify as a mini cinema already. Watching news on a 75" can be ackward.

I just checked the prices of Hisense TV in my shopping cart, added since earlier this year. I was shocked that the prices have gone even lower now. With these sort of prices I wonder who would by 'unbranded' TVs as mentioned earlier in this thread.

A 55" Hisense is now a record low RM1.6k.



A 65" which to me is the sweet spot, is just ~RM2.2k.



And lastly 75" is only RM3k.



I wonder how low can the prices go.

An 85" from Hisense is only RM5.5k which gives projectors a run for the money..

A note on the picture quality of the Hisense. I can only compare it with the Sharp Aquos as my brother-in-law has one and I have watched the TV several times.

In areas of clarity and sharpness, although there may be difference I would say it's not a big difference. Both look good. The biggest difference between the Hisense and Sharp is in the colour rendition. To me, the colours of the Hisense look much more natural. The colours on the Sharp look a lot more vivid and bright as if it's boosted. I have tried tweaking the colours via the settings but the inherent colour of the Sharp is obvious as it still looks bright, vivid and saturated although the saturation is considerably reduced in the settings.
