MACC probes Mayu unit, accounts frozen

Tuesday, 30 Sep 2025

PETALING JAYA: Mayu Global Bhd has announced that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has summoned a director of its 80%-owned subsidiary, Sunrise Manner Sdn Bhd (SMSB), to assist in an ongoing investigation.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the steel products maker said SMSB director Tang Tiam Hok was called by the MACC on Sept 19 and Sept 23, 2025, to assist in an ongoing investigation under the MACC Act 2009. At this juncture, no charges have been filed against Tang, it said.

“The company will continue to monitor the situation closely and will make further announcements as and when there are material developments,” it said.

Mayu added that MACC issued orders freezing SMSB’s bank accounts under Section 44 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The orders, served on Sept 23, affect accounts held with

Maybank Islamic Bhd

and

CIMB Bank Bhd,

and are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.

After assessing the group’s financial position, 12-month cash-flow projections, and hire purchase facilities (no other credit facilities), the bank account freezes are not expected to materially impact Mayu Group’s finances or operations.
