Over RM130 million from Malaysia is expected to ‘flow’ to Thailand during this long Hari Malaysia weekend as well as the school holidays, as more than 100,000 Malaysians are choosing to spend their holidays in the neighbouring country.

According to a report by Harian Metro, Economic Analyst, Professor Emeritus Dr Barjoyai Bardai shared that this proves that the trend of travelling abroad is increasingly becoming a lifestyle for Malaysians.

“This holiday season alone saw more than 100,000 Malaysians estimated to go on holiday to Thailand with an average spending of RM600 per person, bringing the total (expenditure) expected to exceed RM130 million,”

“This expenditure is not small because the money should help stimulate the domestic economy, especially the local tourism sector. On the contrary, it provides huge profits to the overseas tourism industry, while domestic businesses miss out on the opportunity of public holidays,” he said.

Dr Barjoyai Bardai, who is also the Dean of the Graduate Studies Centre at the University of Science and Technology Malaysia (MUST), further explained that, if people choose to spend the holidays within the country, the same amount could provide new income to hoteliers, restaurants and local small traders.

“If this RM130 million is spent domestically, hundreds of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will benefit and be competitive. But, now, it is flowing out in just a few days of holidays, illustrating how much of the people’s spending power has been lost,” he said, adding that this situation has further weakened the local tourism sector.

“If 5 million people holiday in the country throughout the year, the total expenditure could reach RM3 billion, and that is enough to revive our tourism sector.”

Langkawi drinking place pub n music can operate until 12am only

If beyond 12am police will come arrest people

This law was setup by PAS Sanusi

Swedish couple kena arrest cause the pub play music beyond 12am , doesn’t make sense to arrest the customer

The swedish embassy had to interrupt n release the couple

Cuti-cuti Malaysia is not affordable at all and so inconvenient.

If you want to travel from KL to Terengganu for the beaches, be prepared to suffer the insane traffic jam. Another area that Malaysia is lacking is places of interest (historical, scenic, entertainment etc...), if you are in KL, there are a lot of shopping malls. It would be good had they retained Pudu Jail or preserved historical buildings and turned them into museums. Unfortunately, we have some clowns stating that it reminded them of "colonial era" torture and abuse, which resulted in such buildings being torn down.

Travelling to East Malaysia is prohibitively expensive, especially during school holidays.

In the end, it's better to travel abroad or stay at home and save money. There's no compelling reason to hang around in Malaysia.

Cheap halal food haven

Most Malaysian Muslim travellers are drawn to Hat Yai for its vibrant food scene, where affordable, delicious and authentic halal Thai cuisine takes centre stage.

The city buzzes with street food stalls, bustling night markets, and cosy halal-certified eateries offering a feast for the senses.

AI Overview
Tourists visiting Hatyai come from various states in Malaysia, particularly from the northern Malaysian states near the border, such as Perlis and Kedah, as well as from further afield, including the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The destination is also popular with visitors from Kelantan.

I wonder if we'll ever get a breakdown in the stats. Would be interesting to see which states contribute the most to the exodus.
