High-speed Internet for military homes targeted by 2027

BUTTERWORTH: The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) project for the Armed Forces Family Homes (RKAT) nationwide is scheduled for full completion by May 2027, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said work was actively underway, with priority given to several major military camps, including the Butterworth Air Base and Subang Air Base.

“For the Butterworth Air Base, we expect it to be completed earlier, by January 2026.

“God willing, with the set priorities, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel will enjoy faster and more affordable internet access,” he said after inspecting the FTTH project at the RKAT here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.

Fahmi said the FTTH project, which covered 73 military camps nationwide involving more than 59,000 RKAT units, was a result of collaboration between MCMC and MAF through a memorandum of understanding signed on Oct 11, 2024.

He said MAF personnel would be able to subscribe to the Perajurit Broadband package at RM49 per month for 100Mbps speed, with a promotional rate of RM39 per month for the first six months.

“This Internet service is not just for communication, but is vital in improving the quality of life of military personnel, supporting their children’s education, and strengthening the well-being of families in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” Fahmi said.

He said that the delay in starting the project after its announcement in October 2024 was due to the tender process and security vetting of workers, which needed to be settled first.

He added that MCMC would continue to monitor the project’s implementation to ensure standards were met, and maximum benefits delivered to the armed forces community.

Given the national security sensitivity requirements, wouldn't surprise me if it is via their own ASN, AS132885

Weird how people in this thread comment like it's for operational use when it's clearly stated in the title it's for their home usage.
