Kelantan police acknowledge that many locals, including teenagers, are illegally crossing into Thailand during weekends in search of entertainment.

"Most of these youngsters travel to Thailand on Thursday evenings and return to Kelantan by Saturday," he told reporters, adding that they park their vehicles in Rantau Panjang and cross the Golok River to enter Thailand, bypassing the authorised Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex route.

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Malaysian holidaymakers endured nearly four hours of traffic congestion and immigration processing at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex here before crossing into Thailand today.

The heavy congestion, which stretched for about 1.5km from the border checkpoint, began as early as 6am, as travellers took advantage of the Malaysia Day public holiday and school break to head north.
