Just a heads-up, on a slight tangent:
Xiaomi recently issued a recall of powerbanks here, potential fire hazard. https://www.lowyat.net/2025/364858/xiaomi-r...ah-in-malaysia/ |

Batteries can come form many manufacturers. Small companies may have lower operating cost but their smaller volume material purchase cannot compete with bigger companies perhaps. They may use lower cost material for casing and cheaper electronic component from clone chip manufacturers.
Explode or not depends can happened even on branded one also. Maybe can refer if the battery has CCP safety approval at least Anyway, batteries are mostly (if not all) sourced from China. China has all material resources required and cheaper than any country I believe. |

QUOTE(OnePiece999 @ Sep 11 2025, 04:08 PM) The label is 3.7v at 10k, and 5v at 5100. Translate to 10k powerbank just like any other marketing for other branded one. Its goes to show that the efficiency of that powerbank is bad if it drops by half the capacity of the battery after conversion. So yeah padan dengan harga. Unbranded one and cheap one is too suspicious, to a point safety might be questionable. then buy another phone that had reverse charge functionality or just swap to the spare phone then when there is battery low for ur main phone |

usually cheap powerbanks are quite straightforward to identify
1. they dont have good certifications 2. the battery capacity doesnt live up to its numbers, good powerbanks have close to 80% efficiency rating (8k mah/10k mah). the pic says 5k despite 10k mah capacity 3. the charging ports are basic low powered 5W-10W charging (no PD support) |

Your best bet is get near 70% conversion given zero energy loss in the process. Some energy still get loss from battery to the cable and also to your phone, either way we just ignore some marginal loss that is unavoidable.1. they dont have good certifications 2. the battery capacity doesnt live up to its numbers, good powerbanks have close to 80% efficiency rating (8k mah/10k mah). the pic says 5k despite 10k mah capacity 3. the charging ports are basic low powered 5W-10W charging (no PD support) |

Those 20k mah 45W ones weren't cheap when they were new in the market (160) but I've just ordered another one for 70 recently. Given decent xiaomi ones arn't that much more expensive than chap ayam, no point in saving money there. I find for powerbanks, just as long as you charge them up before you fully drain them, they tend to last longer. If you have completely drained them, sometimes they dont charge up properly anymore or worst, fireworks when charging. |

My household have used many cheap powerbanks from different brands. Pineng, yoobao, xiaomi, and many other unknown brands. Half of it got as freebies from event booth. Usually 1-2 years only tahan, then get bloated d.
If the powr bank easily spin around on a flat surface, that means it starting to bloat. If the powerbank looks bloated, I ask my family to throw it or give it to me to send at recycle center. |
