In Republic of China (Taiwan) 🇹🇼, this day is also known as Senior Citizens’ Day / Respect-for-the-Elderly Day 👴👵🙏, when many city governments distribute senior allowance (angpow 💰).








It is a traditional Chinese festival 🌸 where people:

👉 Government (like Kaohsiung) gives 敬老禮金 = senior allowance (angpow 💰) to old people.

📅 Today is September 9, but ❌ not the traditional “Double Ninth Festival” (Chongyang Festival).
👉 The real date is October 29 (9th day of the 9th lunar month).

🏛️ According to the Kaohsiung City Social Affairs Bureau, only citizens who remain registered in Kaohsiung 🏠 until 30 days before the festival will qualify for the senior allowance 🎁💵.

🎂 Festival date: Oct 11

💳 Bank transfer: allowance deposited on Sept 27

💵 Cash payout: Sept 27 – Oct 31


📅 This year’s payout date not yet announced, but expected mid-October 🗓️.

Taichung City Senior Allowance for Double Ninth Festival to Be Distributed from October 8

💰 Taichung City will begin distributing the Chongyang Festival senior allowance on October 8.

Two options: cash or bank transfer.

For those who choose bank transfer, the money will be deposited on the first day of distribution.


📊 According to the Social Affairs Bureau, this year 506,000 people will receive the allowance:

4,119 indigenous people aged 55–64

502,875 seniors aged 65–99

491 centenarians (100+ years old) 🎉

👵 65–89 years old (including indigenous 55–89): TWD 2,000 ≈ MYR 280

🎂 90–94 years old: TWD 3,000 ≈ MYR 420

⚠️ Reminder from the bureau:

Eligible are seniors 65+ (or 55+ for indigenous) → born before Dec 31, 1960 (or before Dec 31, 1970 for indigenous).

Must have household registration in Taichung City before Sept 8, 2025.

Elders and families planning to move household registration should pay attention to these rules to avoid losing their allowance rights.
