Three friends charged with robbing, brandishing parangs at elderly sisters

BATU PAHAT: Three friends, all of whom have prior criminal records, including for robbery, were charged in the Sessions Court here today with robbing and brandishing parangs at two elderly sisters last month.


The accused, Wong Chong Loong, 45; Sim Jia Ie, 28; and Ngoh Tian Song, 50, all painters by trade, pleaded not guilty to two charges read out by the court interpreter before Judge Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh.

According to the first charge, they were jointly accused of committing gang robbery using two parangs measuring 57cm and 53cm against a 70-year-old female victim, fleeing with a mobile phone and cash.

the second charge, they allegedly robbed a 68-year-old woman using the same weapons, stealing her multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and cash.


Both offences were allegedly committed at a house on Jalan Gemilang 2/2B, Taman Banang Jaya, at 8am on Aug 19.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction.

According to the police report, the incident occurred while the sisters were at home.

The suspects had been waiting at the back of the house before entering, threatening the victims with parangs and demanding valuables.

A neighbour reportedly witnessed the suspects fleeing in the victim's MPV.

Deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Natasha Syed Ahmad appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were unrepresented.

The court set Oct 8 for document submission and appointment of lawyers.

The court also ordered all three accused to report to the nearest police station once a month and not to disturb prosecution witnesses, especially the victims, until the case concludes.

Bail was set at RM20,000 each, but none of the accused could afford it and were ordered to be held on remand at the Muar Correctional Centre.

Hope the judge kasih max sentence with whipping, fucking scum. No matter race, anyone who is a repeat offender of violent crime need to be put away for good. Ideally our jails should put these trash to work to make money to earn their own keep as well. Sampah that makes society unsafe need to be excised from the rest of society.
