Sg buys mlitary equipment in batches. They will probably add more P8s as they introduce it to their operations.

No, it is very difficult for submarines to effectively hide in the Strait of Malacca due to its shallow depth and heavy maritime traffic. While submarines are designed to be stealthy, the strait's depths, averaging under 50 meters, make submerged operation extremely hazardous and easily detectable. Therefore, submarines traversing this strategic waterway typically do so on the surface, making them readily visible to surface shipping.

Sg already pick their side. If WW3 they have to against CCP. We just seat back and eat pop corn. Hopefully WW3 no need play nuclear bomb.

The F35s are replacing the F16Vs and some of the old F5 S/Ts.

It will be a streched buy in batches till early 2030s.

Likely 80 to 100 F35s by the time they r done.

In 2017, NZ bought 4 for US$1.46 billion.
https://media.defense.gov/2024/Dec/12/20036...ALAND_17-13.PDF

Germany bought 5 for US$1.77 billion in 2021.

sinkie never operated more than 5 MPA at any time. Not likely to have 2nd batch.

NZ - 4, AUS - 12, UK - 9.

still think its overkill for sinkie size. 9 crew is a lot for small sinkie population.

Trump impact on decision cannot be underestimated.

I will not be surprised if it happens. They are already getting six 8800 - 10000 ton heavy frigates/destroyers.

i read before in some article by an ex US navy general or something ranting abt US Navy's ASW capabilities, he said in actuality US never cared nor focused on ASW so while on paper all their ASW gear looks impressive and stuff, but none of them performed well during training exercises against fellow NATO subs

he mentioned that few years ago there was an ASW training exercise where the US carrier fleet and escorts are tasked to detect, track and defeat the opponent's sub. suffice to say the US carrier fleet failed badly and apparently the Norwegians who were tasked as the opponents, snuck in undetected and "sunk" the carrier unopposed

Note Sg has said that this is phase one.

QUOTE
The release said that Singapore will acquire four P-8As as the first phase of Singapore’s recapitalization of its maritime security capabilities, which seek to strengthen its maritime situation awareness and ability to counter sub-surface threats.

https://breakingdefense.com/2025/09/singapo...atrol-aircraft/

Tho Sg has not revealed what is phase 2. I suspect long range UAVs, USVs, more Seahawks and one or two more Poseidons (based overseas for training - to be recalled during tensions ).

It is actually a good thing, to buy the P8 and other US made drones, better than getting tariffs..

since with tariffs, our exports suffer and we get nothing back in return.

The most important thing, is as our highest authorities in the Military said, no hanky panky middle man, and directly goverment negotiate and buy properly, without kick backs to anyone.

Defense spending need to be more than 100% vested as it is for all of Malaysia.
