So israel need someone who against 2 state solution. They need radical group, that is hamas. Because hamas will do their role opposing any 2 state solution, because hamas want at all cost, took baitulmaqdis as their capital. No israel nation. In a way, success in preventing PLO to archieve 2 state solutiion.

But now as hamas growing stronger. they simply need to eliminate it. Same thing happen to osama
