Iran did just that burned their govt, executed their leaders, depose the Shah. And then what? Ayatollah and IRGC took over. Not a cent spend on the people.
ALl the money went to fight wars hundreds of miles away, money went to cronies politically connected IRGC, bad planning until water also don't have.
