Would be nice to see a movie from the Vietnamese perspective. Used to cheer the Americans on when the bombed the Vietcongs on TV when I was a kid in the 80s.

Nowadays, I do think that it was attempted genocide with their mines and agent Orange. They don't call it that because of the "intent", but that's defined by the Americans themselves. They knowingly sprayed chemicals on millions of civilians because they were not the "intended" targets as they just wanted to remove some shrubs to get to the VCs. Yeah, they really had good intentions.

AI Overview

A fun fact about Agent Orange in Malaya is that the British Army used a precursor herbicide, CMU "trioxone", during the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), even before its widespread use by the US in the Vietnam War. This defoliant was used to thin vegetation, control insurgents, and was later revealed in the 1980s to also target food crops and livestock, exposing workers and personnel to the dioxin that causes health problems
