Chris Martin accused of dehumanising Israeli fans in latest embarrassing Coldplay concert moment
Two Israeli fans brought on stage at a Coldplay concert at Wembley Stadium were faced with boos and jeers during an awkward exchange with frontman Chris Martin.
Coldplay were performing in London on Sunday evening when the women, named Avia and Tal, were invited to join them.
Some in the crowd booed and jeered when Martin asked where they came from, and they replied “Israel”.
Martin’s efforts to smooth over the situation only made it more excruciating.
“I’m going to say this. I’m very grateful that you’re here as humans. We are treating you as equal humans on Earth, regardless of where you come from,” Martin says.
“Thank you for being here. We’re grateful and thank you for being loving and kind.
“Although it’s controversial, maybe, I also want to welcome people in the audience from Palestine,” he says to cheers from the crowd. “I believe that we’re all equally human.”
In a post on X, Creative Community for Peace wrote: “Why did Israelis need to be reminded they will be treated as humans? Aren’t Israelis humans already? This is exactly the dehumanization Jews face again and again, and it’s shameful that it played out on a stage meant for music and unity.”
