I m not surprised as some Taiwanese still has Japanese blood in them considering 50years Japan rule Taiwan.

Many Taiwanese have become Japanese, including Momofuku Ando, inventor of instant noodles, and Sadaharu Oh, a baseball legend.

Those Taiwanese born from 1895 to 1945, all have Japanese names, in fact they adopted Japanese culture all their life.

Which is why during WW2, many young Taiwanese join the Japanese soldiers in battle.

Many didn't know many Taiwanese back then who joined the JP imperial army had actually committed war crime (just like their jp comrades). But after JP surrendered, and JP gave Taiwan back to China, these criminals escaped being prosecuted.

The inhabitants of Taiwan were to be assimilated and made Japanese. This policy is in contrast to the Korean Peninsular, where Korea was seen as a subjugated colonial territory, with its resources exploited, its people enslaved to serve Imperial Japan.

And quite honestly, there's a solution to the problem in Taiwan today. Those who don't want to be Chinese or have issues with reunification, they could be paid to move to Japan especially since there are so many japanophiles. Whetehr Japan would wanna take more old people is another question.
