The World Bank estimated that between 2018 and 2020, the nation housed 1.4 to 2 million documented migrants and an additional 1.2 to 3.5 million undocumented migrants (in total a range of 2.6 to 5.5 million migrants). Migrants in Malaysia mostly originate from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and other Asian countries in smaller numbers including India, Cambodia, and Lao PDR
