about this case, basically cabin filter will do help at early stage which mean, when ur car is still new or after u service ur cooling coils. by installing the cabin filter, it will prevent dust particles from sticking on ur cooling coils / accumulate at ur cooling coils.if ur cooling coils is trapped with dust as dust is known as trapping moisture and acidic. when u switch on ur air con, it will release some kind of weird smell (wet odor) into ur air con system and its acidic properties, in long term will corrode ur cooling coils.
in other way, if ur moiture ventilation system (to pipe to let condensed water out from ur air con system) is stuck / almost stuck, then u also may experience this smelly odor.
i hope this info will help.
