The instrument is called Saxophone. A saxophonist is a person who plays the saxophone smile.gif

Anyway for the price of these instruments and a good place to learn.. I suggest you go to Yamaha.
I am not sure where you can learn the Chinese flute though. But of course, Yamaha offers courses for the concert flute.

If you choose to play saxophone, I would suggest you to play alto saxophone. An easy instrument to play but will take more effort and practice to master it.

If you're thinking of buying a new saxophone, Yamaha is a good choice - provided you are willing to spend around RM4k on a new saxophone. smile.gif

BUT, if you are on a budget, I would suggest to you to buy cheap and decent saxophone such as Conn-Selmer. Ranging RM1.5k to RM2.5k.

It's all depends on how serious are you to master saxophone. No point if you buy an expensive saxophone and quit learning it when you feel you don't like it anymore.

If you have a basic knowledge of music theory (staff, measure, time signature, octave, etc.), I bet you can already play a simple song such as TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR in a day, but without it MAY take you 3 days. Actually it is very SUBJECTIVE to comment on DIFFICULTY on how you can learn to play saxophone.

As for where can you buy saxophone in KL/PJ area, I have no comment because honestly I do not know smile.gif i usually buy via internet.

Anyway, good luck on your pick.

Cheers.

The best to pick up either istruments is probably in skool if it has a skool band. Instruments are provided and seniors do the teaching - u get basic gear and you're forced to leaarn. But hey, i havent seen the inside of a skool in 15 years, wat do i know? tongue.gif

I think polyphonic instruments are better, you know those that can do chords or make it sound like 2 people playing.

Classical Guitar, piano, electone/organ/keyboard.

I know a few things about chinese flute, it is quite easy to learn the basic stuff(I know to play a little) and best of all a good quality one won't costs you more than a few hundred. The cheapest ones are definitely under a hundred, maybe even under 50 bucks if I'm not mistaken. I don't know where you can learn it in KL though, try chambers in Sungei Wang.
