Hi all, I (33 yr old) need some advice on whether to go to Sg or Aus for better work opportunities..
Aus: I have a PR but has just expired (last entry 2 years ago), stayed in Aus for a short while but Covid has jeopardized everything, planning to apply for RRV hopefully can get 1 year extension (no guarantee)...
Sg: No PR, if go there work need apply permit (no guarantee), if want apply for PR seems to be lottery because not sure if can get by the time I apply..
Knowing job market is rough globally, which one is more feasible? Thanks!

Getting Started

If you plan on returning home often, and I assume it's Malaysia, then Singapore for sure for its proximity. If you have no need to come back often, then Australia is better. But be prepared for racism and glass ceilings in Aust. I used to have a friend, an Australian Chinese, who could not find a good job and he eventually came to SG where his opportunities were better. He is in Finance. I guess SG would be better for those in financial or banking sector.

Depends if planning to return or not
For work life balance, western country is better but Singapore usually is easier to find job

Very easy question. Apply for your RRV. And then starts applying for jobs in Singapore. See which one comes first. Which one is the smoothest. Let the universe decide for you since you cannot decide. If both also not smooth, tak jadi, then maybe it's time to think about settling down in Malaysia. Good luck...

Getting Started

Coincidentally, was just speaking to my colleague whose son just returned to SG cause can't find a job in AU after graduation there.
For SG, it depends as most firms now pick SC or PR. Nevertheless, worth a try. But just need make yourself standout as so many MY folks want to cross over nowadays.

You don’t need advice on which is better. You need luck to get a job in both countries. Unless you are stellar, at 33 you are reaching the expiry age of the norm for migration. The longer you wait the longer you will get less opportunities as you are reaching the age where nobody really wants to hire you. Just mass apply all the job’s and if you don’t hear back in 1/2 years then just stay in Malaysia

a mat salleh in channelnewsasia forum (late 2000's. CNA killed the forum 10 years ago) once said, if you send your kids to Aus, he have a fighting chance. if he's in SG, he have to fight for a chance
