Getting Started

I'm 32 with just SPM. Which course that you recommend for me to take at GMI? I'm starting a new chapter in life but I've been out of the loop for a long time, and need guidance from experienced people here. I've decided to shelved my business idea because it's not a good idea to have a friend as a partner, plus I lacked the skills to do the job. Thanks 🙏 https://www.gmi.edu.my/Thanks for the response. I've decided to do part time studies at UTM Space and work as a delivery driver while at it. (Edit : Post on my update) This post has been edited by lovecats: Jul 24 2025, 10:37 PM

You might be able to do a degree as a mature student, only need SPM. Check out some Uni / College.
On the dip courses, sustainable energy and autotronics sounds interesting. Also Machine Tools Maintenance and Cybersecurity. Sustainable energy may offer work in Solar related, may become installer later. Autotronics - more electronics in cars, so also possible jobs, own mechanic shop. Tools maintenace got jobs, even robots need maintenance. Cybersecurity - just read lowyat know how bad internet can be.

Choose accordingly the type of work you interested in or would like to get into, then from there you can filter what would you like to study

Yeah that's a great idea. I think I'll do part time studies. Work as a delivery driver and study part time.

Will do part time instead and work as delivery driver while at it. Takes longer to finish but at least I'll graduate.

Nothing to advice on your course of choice thou
Only advice is to power through it, don't give up half way on your choice of course no matter how hard the going is and the focus is to graduate
Since you will be a mature student, don't fool around as time and financial is essential too because you will be having a late start comparing to your peers
Good time to network as much as you can
Strive for good grades so that you are able to seek scholarships/loans during the course of your studies to lessen your financial burdens
Financial burdens are actually one of the main cause for lots to drop out of their studies
Good luck!

Takes longer to finish but at least I'll graduate. don't need to do part time i think most courses are like 40 credit hour week, sometimes lower. you should still have like 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours to do whatever you want. juggle those times. part time will just make it too long to complete your studies.

Go work and study at the same time .... where and what ? ... Sell / Rent properties. Take the real estate course and open your own agency in the future.
Is tough ya. Life is never easy unless your parents are rich.

Don’t expect to see too many Brits running around that place. 😄 This post has been edited by kiddokitt: Jul 25 2025, 08:19 AM

QUOTE(heinlein @ Jul 25 2025, 08:21 AM) I think high education are outdated, you need to find ways to get into the business to learn real stuff AI, Robotics n automation r taking over many jobs. The 1st batch would be white collar jobs n yet universities r churning millions of them. Ironically IT jobs r among the 1st affected. Next affected would be jobs like salesman when people can buy everything online with AI guidance. For the time being better learn some trades like plumber, electrician n especially nurse.
