10:40 am
i didnt have any AEONCR Credit Card

A---. A Malay girl called me this morning to verify my name, said from AEONCR. I thou is abt annual meeting for AEONCR counter i bought
1. I did said it to verify my name, as they claim is from AEONCR, i do suspect is possible fraud if something fishy
2. Then the malay girl continue to ask for my IC no. I neglect to provide to her.
3. She replied with my IC to confirm, it seems like they know my IC, i replied yes, thats my IC
4. She transfer my call to another guy to proceed further

B---. Someon1 called Leong
1. Start talking abt my unpaid transaction on AEONCR Credit Card in Kuantan Poh Kong, RM7000+, Said i didnt make payment for it
2. I explain that I never own the CC, is not me, go proceed to make the report as fraud
3. He asks me to go Kuantan Police Station to make report.
4. I told him it weird for me to do the Fraud report. Since I dont bother random call from bank and say i hav CC with them. The act is so random.
5. I said call me back, i am busy. he offer to let me know the detail, i need prepare paper to write down the detail.

B---. Leong called back 10 mins later
1. He told me abt the Address in my IC, the stmt sent to my IC address. So they know my IC
2. He gave me CC no, an address of the transaction made
3. Call cut off

---conclusion---
- Is new kind of scammer call to me, they seems to try to get more data from me. If is not the call cutoff, i will dig out more info
- I did CCRIS search on BNM, I dont see i own any CC from AEON. https://eccris.bnm.gov.my/eccris/pages/sec/login.xhtml#!
- I did cimbclick Duitnow transfer on the CC with "Aeon Bank", the CC number on Aeon Bank seems invalid. there is no Payee to "Aeon Credit", i dont see it.
- called aencr on the support call numbrr. credit card department is not reachable. Pending them to call me back

TLTR version
Some1 call abt my aeonCr CC transaction, RM7k+ unpaid transaction, ask me why. I told them i dont have the card. They have my Name, IC no, and Address on IC. I think they got my IC image.

to be continue if any further info gather. Do comment if you received such call b4. do share more on this

[1:30pm]
-Official Aeoncr call me back. with the IC i provided earlier. they promise to call me back
- Aeoncr confirm i hav no Credit Card nor loan with them

Gamxia all for the feedback and reply

Sounds like another calling centre scam to me, they just want to exploit you with the info they got, which is IC and address, and to "force" you to make a payment.

there was a massive leak of data, your name, ic and phone number registered to that IC .... news like 10 years ago ? if your phone is registered before that leak, high chances it is part of the leak (like my mobile phone now registered 20 years ago - cant cancel / change because already use so long, very inconvenient) - there was a link posted in lowyat also - where you key in your phone number - and if you see your IC there, then you know its leaked

There is no need of data leak. Name, IC number, phone number, address etc is what you filled in if you enter contest last time (now more online). So, these info is lying everywhere and one can just sell them. These info are not very secretive anymore.

Anything call me and said I did something wrong, owe money, I will hang up phone.
If you really did something, usually wont call one. They will send letter.

Except if accident and report police. Sargent will call you directly.

Banks don't call from mobile numbers la.

Plus, they don't call about fraud cases. It is always the customer who need to contact them. If you're a premier customer then only they might call.

Anyhow, already 5 years never received such stupid calls from scammers after paying for Truecaller.

Yes. Had similar call many years back.

Someone pretend as bank officer (a bank in Ipoh) and even telling me his name (Malay name), but I could hear certain part he slipped a hint of Chinese accent. He asked my name and also verified my IC number. Correct. I think it was to verify the charge made or new application, I could not recall.

I said I did not have account in Ipoh and no CC from that bank. I told him that since it was someone else using my IS then just do not approved it. Then he told me to make police report. I asked him why I need to make police report since it was my problem (for me it was bank problem laugh.gif ). To end conversation I just told him that I'm busy shopping now and asked him to call me back after 2 hours.

Surprisingly when I was home 2 ours later, I get the call again. I just let it ringed when I saw the number laugh.gif

I think using Truecaller or whatever, it just blocked all the number being labeled as scammer. However, those scammer are using devices that send fake number. The number can be valid number belong to someone else.

really hated aeon official
call and ask for my ic number. i am not giving out my ic to any random number. the staff seems does not know about privacy, cybersecurity

if this happen to you, turn on phone recording, and ask for their name, badge number. then call back the official aeon bank phone number to verify.

Nothing.

My two credit cards are at least 30 years old

My Telco 40 years

No insurance

No hotel bookings whatever.

All of sudden, the calls start coming in. I answered but didn't talk. The caller also kept quiet. Then hang up and the whole cycle repeat.

Scammer will always ask you to go to some faraway police station like in Johor or Kedah based on your IC address, and they will say that you need to be there in 2 hours time.

Police report can be done at any police station, the info will be in the centralised system.

Also the call transfer from bank to police. If you've been living in Malaysia, you know that they won't be so "easy" to answer the phone.

Same as mine. I didn't register for anything, then one day I got a scam call. Out of boredom, I just layan the guy for almost an hour. Did everything he said, acted gullible, then when near my meeting time, I just said that my phone is almost out of battery. He never called back. Then after that for almost 2 months, almost everyday I will get scam call. Now already quiet.

I believe they already have their own database of people, and they already marked you as "easy to scam". tongue.gif

I always leave the phone ringing for the first 10 seconds. If they just cut off the call before 10 seconds then highly likely it's from scam call centre.

There are some times that it did rings for entire 20 seconds, at that time usually I would look for the number on google/truecaller if the number is legit or not. Sometimes they are also persistent calling 1 number for 20s, then 2nd number another 20s, 3rd number another 20s.

Best not to pick up random calls, else they will know you are one "potential" "commission" for them.

Not really. Phone rang and my phone showed Possible Scam. I answered. Said hello but no one answered and after few seconds said hello again and when I was about to hang up, got voice from other end. It was Astro calling to inform about broadband package for Astro customer. It was a legit call.

I think nowadays call response sometimes a bit delayed due to voice call is now processed through packets, VoIP, in telco network system. I'm assuming this. Even when I received call from my brother it happened from time to time.

Your IC, Name, Address on IC and HP number is now just public information. People have been selling them every time you fill in a form.

Scammers have these information, no need to get all worried. As long as you don't tell them anything new.
Just troll them.

Then the scam calls reduced significantly and stopped mostly.

call and ask for my ic number. i am not giving out my ic to any random number. the staff seems does not know about privacy, cybersecurity

if this happen to you, turn on phone recording, and ask for their name, badge number. then call back the official aeon bank phone number to verify.

True... is odd to know police is in call specially for me....
There was so many red flags on my few mins call

they do, but different group of scammers operate different type of scam

some use mass random number calling, hoping for the 1% that pick up the call and fell for the trick/scam

some use mass random number invite, invite you into random WA/TG group, fake it as if the group is really talking about investment

oh.. but they will never use whatsapp to call you

they will only use telco's call.

if they use whatsapp call, we can report to whatsapp and get them blocked

but if with telco, no body to report for whistling.gif

WA spam call probably not effective because some times call won't go through

if call by SIM card 100% you will get the call unless if you live in area with no line coverage e.g. underground/tunnel/jungle

still, WA same company as FB, so basically report also useless. Reported a few that invited me into "investment" group, until now only krik krik no action

I see. I also got alot of silent caller. When i answer, no talking and they hang up immediately.

So i report them and block all those numbers.

It is a robot caller. How it works is the robot dials pre programmed number. Then it wats for you to respond in lets say 5 seconds. If you did not respond it hangs up. If you did respond, the call will be transferred to their "agent".

The calls can also be type. 1 type is transferred to a real person. The other is a pre recorded message to fish 1st bite. Lets say credit card. If you do not own credit card, you will end call. If you do, it will transfer again to a real person.

I have yet to encounter AI calls. But if you do, i suggest learn up profanities if you suspect it is AI. Because AI cannot counter profanities. It may be thought apologetically reply like, "Sorry sir, i wish you could stop doing that and get back to what we are talking about."

The other counter is use Malay language. OUR MALAYSIAN MALAY LANGUAGE. Because Ai only has access to Indonesian Malay. Ours is not popular because of population count. So make use of this advantage that we have. Use local Malay language to test the response.
