I always suspected my child had ADHD issues. He is quite intelligent but he tends to throw big fits and tantrums when he can't get what he wants; eg a toy. At school, he has trouble paying attention at class, teacher complain he would hang out with the naughty boys at the back of the classroom while the rest pays attention. He can't sit still esp in a restaurant, runs around. one day I sent him to a pediatrician because he had a bad cold, the doctor has been treating him for a few years, then he noticed that he may have ADHD issues. Recommends for us to send him to a child psychologist or development psychologist. He said that there may be drugs that can control his hyperactiveness so he can better pay attention at class. May be after some years, he may no longer need those drugs. Anyone's child has the same issues? How you resolve it, their lack of attention and focus at school? Any recommendation of child psychologist? government hospital got? |

Isn't a boy issue
But then again I don't know your son Initially we thought might have some ADHD - explore in the restaurant, didn't really cry with toy issue though, seems distracted, don't really have eye contact Thought might have some autism Turned out ok But I was kinda strict though. But didn't physically cane him Hmm no idea Edit: If your paeds said go, you should give it a go Gov, semi gov or private This post has been edited by sakuraboo: Jun 25 2025, 10:41 PM |

Oh yes, i have seen kids like this. Rare but not uncommon. All other students could sit down quietly doing their work but there will be this one student who cannot sit still, disturbing other students and disrupting the class. Running around too. ask the school teacher how is his performance during class? Does he complete his tasks? Check his homework yourself. Does he complete all his homework. Check the lists of ADHD symptoms yourself against your child. Ask yourself also were you like this as well when young? Did you discipline your child when he misbehave? Some parents don't bother to discipline their child, so they misbehave. Then it's nothing to do with ADHD. *lightbringer*, rtk73, and 4 others liked this post

Agree with Blofeld. Don't pump your kids full of drugs just because industry players need another source of income. Try discipline first. gashout, Pubgamesrhard, and 3 others liked this post

I am from family with ADHD. both my parents have it. I have it too.
Basically our mind is like a ballroom party, many thoughts going on at once. We end up doing one thing and thinking of other thing, very difficult to focus. I always advise against doing "test" on your children. You do it only when it's a part of process, like u need the certification for your next course of action. You need to ask yourself this, what do u want out of the test? To satisfy your curiousity? Or u need the documents to apply for medications, to treat your kid. ADHD is not a disease, So no cure. You can only learn to live with it. For example. We learn stuff differently, most kids can outright memorize and regurgitate the whole topic. ADHD definitely couldnt, they have their own way of learning, for me i need to learn stuff by forming a coherent and logical story. If u tell me apple falls because of gravity, i would not be able to remember this gravity stuff. Unless u go through the long ass story, like how gravity forms, why is it important to learn this, what's the implication of this stuff. etc etc. In short i can never memorize shit just because i need to, i wont be able to remember it unless i understand it. This is just a small preview of how different our mind works. I forever be grateful my parents knew the chinese school system is not right and sent me to SK instead. ADHD ppl go chinese ed is insanely difficult, their way of teaching will kill their interest in learning completely. |

I suggest seek out a specialist to get a proper diagnosis and get more than one opinion.
Paed once told me. ADHD is one of the most over diagnosed symptom in kids. Getting the proper specialist to diagnose is key. |

ADHD ppl go chinese ed is insanely difficult, their way of teaching will kill their interest in learning completely. My son was kicked out of kindergarden at 4 (kept for 1.5 years because it was covid and we still pay them during stupid online class and they kicked us out after MCO ended) and since locking into small sized education. A nice kindergarten was very kind to take him in. Became better while going for 2 hours therapy weekly at 2 place. Then, in standard 1, again we hunt for small sized classroom, got into a private school after few round of interview and test (they don't believe his test result). And yes, Chinese education will kill ADHD kids. Son is very good in maths and well ahead compared to other kids but when it comes to arts and language, he doesn't like it but will performed if the teacher is someone he is very fond with (like Chinese which I'm shocked). He does work well with adults like teachers rather than peers. But, this resulted with no real friend which reminded me of myself. We work well when under pressure and will only move when dateline is nearer or the consequences of not doing it is big. Again, I totally agree with netflix2019, there's no point of getting them diagnosed and have a label on him. As long you know, he knows (when he grow older a bit) and you lay the foundation for him to excel, he will be totally fine. My kid has since only going for 1 hour of therapy a week and that is mostly geared towards the social part. It also good if you get him into outside activity and of course remove/reduce things like sugar from the diet. But, I do think that my memory is very hyper and my son's too (he can remember which day a date was in the past like last year exactly!). We only can't remember things we don't like and not interested with. |

QUOTE(Palisades @ Jun 25 2025, 09:43 PM) I always suspected my child had ADHD issues. Bring to GH, get appt with psychology for monitoring and theraphy also. School will be an issue if your son is hyperactive because they are intelligent. All work is kacang puteh only. Hence easily bored. May need to attend PPKI class instead of aliran perdana (if we talking about gov school). He is quite intelligent but he tends to throw big fits and tantrums when he can't get what he wants; eg a toy. Any recommendation of child psychologist? government hospital got? Drug, yes - there are drug that can help them reduce their hyperactive-ness. but it only can cover for a few hours. I use it for school only - 1 biji. Effect will be gone by 11++ if eat around 7. Controlled medicine. When they get older - the tantrum will be less. Will be more calm. Diagnosed my kids at 4 Y/O. Now he's 11 Y/O. Initially GH appintment is every 3/6 month + theraphy twice a month. Now cleared theraphy and GH apppointment every 6 month only for monitoring. Registered him for OKU card so he can get into PPKI school. Initially very2 hard. Now it's ok already. Not normal - but not as tiring as when he's smaller... |

All other students could sit down quietly doing their work but there will be this one student who cannot sit still, disturbing other students and disrupting the class. Running around too. I noticed this too, a worrying growing trend of parents blaming spectrum syndrome (autism, ADHD) for their misbehave kids, rather than being a good parents and discipline them. I'm not talking about TS here, or assuming he/she is a bad parent. But like u said, check the symptoms yourself. The paeds suggest to bring to psychologist, then just follow the paeds. Dont rely on medication, ADHD is not a disease, its a condition. People will learn to live with it anyway.ask the school teacher how is his performance during class? Does he complete his tasks?
