They really fumbled with Phone 3. Overpriced with subpar spec. They think they have a cult following like Apple and Samsung? Also ironically the 3a Pro have a better camera setup than the flagship 3. Like wtf?

Eh, I personally like the design. But looking at the specs, I don't think it's good value.
A shame though I was really looking forward for a replacement for my OnePlus 7. |

Price doesn't match with specs. Can topup a bit get Ultra phone and camera and everything else still better than Nothing Phone 3.
If priced down to 2.5k also hard to sell. Competition from Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Realme, all can tapau Nothing. |

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Jul 12 2025, 05:23 PM) Pixel 10 coming soon Bro , Made in India but their company base on UK , must understand bro , just like Tesla car was manufacture in China but stil it's a western company.btw Nothing is Made in India. India considered their largest customer base i think and very obvious they are not happy with the pricing So a product from western company wont be as cheap and as good spec as china base company , but if u compared Western vs Western company , the cost at $799 which is actually consider "CHEAP" at their country , u can't compared it with Xiaomi , Oppo , Vivo , because they are mainly compete with their own western country like the iphone / pixel / motorola. iphone 16 pro 256gb - $1199 (A18pro) pixel 9 pro 256gb - $1099 (Tensor G4) samsung s25 ultra - $1299.99 (8Elite Galaxy) motorola Edge 50 Ultra - $1099 (8sgen3) One Plus 13 12gb/256gb - $899.99 (8Elite) Nothing phone 3 - $799 (8sgen4) Base on USA Official Retail Price In their own country , it consider as "CHEAP" phone , in here we feel expensive because we have Xiaomi , redmi , poco , realme , iqoo , oppo , honor , vivo of choice. So have to understand the marketing , western brand never CHEAP one la just like Volvo , merc , BMW . mana ada good spec with cheap price one. QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Jul 13 2025, 02:47 PM) But in the end will you buy Nothing Phone 3 for the price? So u talking those release almost 6 month phone to VS just release phone? To be fair , compared apple to apple , Retail Price vs Retail Price, if u want to talk about DISCOUNTED price , there was never END Story. Not trying to say what you said was wrong, but consumers mindset is very easy only, in the end they will only see price and value. Fanboys and haters are different of course. In western markets is not like they dont have any choice also. They still have Oneplus. And S25 series already dropped in pricing. U guys saying Nothing Phone was over price , yes if u compared to CHINA phone , it easily OVERPRICE in HERE , Why? Because we are lucky enough that we got alot of choice over here , but for WESTERN country , the choice was limited , they either go for Iphone , Samsung or Pixel , xiaomi Ultra wasnt cheap too at the western market , so the $799 isnt "OVER PRICE" for them , understand the words and what i;m trying to send here , at the end NOTHING was a brand from UK , do u expect they give u 8Elite Plus triple 50mp Sensor camera at $799 ? They know the MATH bro and they know the MARKET , if they put in 8Elite into their phone , it will be pricing at least $999 at the western market. I already list the price list over there , make your own summary , which phone have 8 Elite Plus triple 50mp sensor camera at $799 on WESTERN market? Even the cheapest Samsung S25 $779.99 was only give u 8Elite Plus 50mp+12mp+10mp , that not even close to the Nothing Phone 3 triple 50mp camera. If u want to talk about CONSUMER MINDSET , why China Phone selling so cheap price at CHINA but after masuk malaysia market the price different was so huge? Then why u stil supporting Global unit as they marking up so high profit in here? Why dont u making loud sound to protest at the road because of the over pricing China phone in malaysia? LOL Vivo S30 Pro mini 12+512 selling at 3799 YUAN = RM2253 but Vivo X200FE 12+512 retail RM3199 in malaysia Iphone 16 pro max $1199 x RM4.3 = RM5155.70 but retail at RM5999 in malaysia Nothing phone 3 $799 x RM4.3 = RM3435.70 but retail at Rm3299 yet kena say over price Math fail? Personally think Nothing should stick to the 3a/3aPro price segment. They do well there in terms of price:spec:styling:software balance. Trying to compete in the higher end and they will lose out in one form or another in the eyes of spec people.
I do like their software — if my router and wireshark logs from testing a friend’s 3a Pro are anything to go by, Nothing OS is a lot better than most Android makers in terms of privacy* (excluding all the phoning home done by Google services, obviously) — and their security update promises seem to be in line with most competitors, but they are definitely not ready for the upper end of the market yet. Currently searching for a replacement ‘dirty’ daily device (anything with Meta and Google apps installed is considered dirty in my book), and since a Pixel with GrapheneOS has too many unknowns in terms of banking or insurance app compatibility (also because Pixel hardware reliability is a bit crap in my experience), I’m looking for the next best thing. If I go with Nothing, it will probably be a 3a or 3a Pro. Won’t even bother with this so called ‘flagship’ model. *although that Nothing Chats security fiasco still leaves me a bit suspicious of them This post has been edited by dev/numb: Jul 20 2025, 08:54 PM |

Highly agree on this point , sometime people too concert about software support , let me tell u , u wont be happy on the latest software on your old phone especially your phone SoC arent into flagship level , it will slow down your phone and drain your battery quickly , promise of security update will be more important than the major update , the best OS for your phone was actually the one out of box , because that the only OS fully optimize for your phone , and most of the time major update on old phone wont get great optimization For me their hardware is okay. It’s the software I hate. So much bloatware. China brands in particular are a joke. In my opinion , 2 year Major OS stil usable , max 3 , even my fren who using iphone 14 pro max regret of updating to iOS18 because the stupid photo album + battery drain , imagine once iOS26 came out with liquid glass , do u think it will ok on iphone 14promax? Trust me , no any OS will be better than straight out of box. This post has been edited by chongkiatz: Aug 4 2025, 05:27 PM |

If the seller is reliable, you can open a chat with them and ask them to check for you. Afaik for the (3) all region models have e-sim support. 3a Pro not sure. I think some regions sell a cheaper 8/128GB model that doesn’t have e-sim. Malaysia only gets the 12/256GB model, so if it’s listed as Malaysia set confirm have. For regular 3a only Japan market gets e-sim. |

Only downside is lack of e-sim support on the 3a. Lack of Nothing service centres is also a concern, but the phone is cheap so not much of a loss if need to buang a year down the line. Almost any phone can do document scanning and QR codes. If you don't need OS upgrade 3a seem enough for your usage, I agree more important is security updates especially since banking and e-wallet usage. For me their hardware is okay. It’s the software I hate. So much bloatware. China brands in particular are a joke. A friend once came over with his kid who had a Poco and asked to join my wifi, and later my router firewall logs showed all sorts of sketchy links the Poco was trying to phone home to. I can easily debloat and harden using Shizuku and Canta without having to unlock bootloader. Bloated OS are also a no-no for me. If your wifi router support guest network, you should use it for guest, that way their device will not be able to connect to any of your home devices, just for precautious. Now more manufacturer block the ability to unlock bootloader, such as Samsung with One UI 8, without it the phone can't be rooted. If can root, there is some apps that can be use to hide banking apps from detecting the phone is rooted, last time I use it when still tinkering with root but it's really troublesome and when there's some changes that will break it's ability to hide then have to find another way to hide again. Now I lazy to waste time doing such tinkering, better to get almost stock Android. Talking about bloat apps, I didn't even check if there's any bloatware apps that come with the phone, I just restore from my old phone and use. Now that I check it really doesn't have any bloatware, no FB or Grab/Uber or Telegram. Most bloatware is from Google own apps such as Google TV, Photos and Gmail. |

I've been using this for a few days already.
So far there are 2 issues I'm facing. -i hardly play games, trying out this typical city building game, the sound would randomly get turned off. Not in mid game but like the next time I start the game. -plugging in USB cable and my PC couldn't detect it, unable to perform file transfer with cable at the moment. |

Can you guys running latest Nothing OS share your experience with the Private Space? So far I’ve read a lot of conflicting info, mainly because all those posting on reddit or nothing forums are not knowledgeable.
What I want to know is if Nothing’s Private Space is the same as Android’s Privacy Space? Normally for regular Android 15 (eg: stock Pixel) when you setup Privacy Space it will ask you for an alternative google account or offer to create a new one for you. Once created you will see a separate Play Store and some other Google apps inside that Privacy Space. You cannot move them out of that space. Is Nothing’s Private Space the same or different? Because if there’s no separate account required and you can move/clone apps then it is more like Samseng Knox and totally different. This post has been edited by dev/numb: Aug 6 2025, 06:46 PM |

I added some apps into it, the apps now will not show on the normal drawer. In the private space also can add files and photos that won't show outside the private space. Also have private camera where the taken photos will be saved into private photos. What I want to know is if Nothing’s Private Space is the same as Android’s Privacy Space? Because if there’s no separate account required and you can move/clone apps then it is more like Samseng Knox and totally different. Apps added into private space will still be same app with same logged in account as before, just now it is hidden from outside. In the private space can choose which app to open photos, either Nothing's own Gallery app or Google's photos app, with Google's Photos app it is not logged in as outside app, so you can log in with different account in there. Except for Google's Photos app, I don't see ways for other app to be cloned, it can only move from outside or in private space. Only Google Photos app have 2 instances, 1 normal outside app and another already in private space for opening photos. Google Photos at outside cannot move into private space. Play Store app cannot move into private space. These are the info of private space that Nothing put when go to the setting QUOTE Protect your privacy Also additional notes in the private spaceNothing OS introduces private space, designed to provide users with a secure environment to store and manage sensitive apps, files and photos. It acts like a digital safe, effectively protecting user privacy. Features: 1. Additional authentication: to access your private space, you'll need to go through additional authentication, such as a password, code or pattern, to ensure security. 2. Hidden apps: your apps in your private space don't appear in your regular app list, recent apps or notifications, making it impossible for others to view sensitive information even if they have access to your phone. 3. Separate Google account: you can create a dedicated Google account for your private space, providing further privacy protection and preventing private data from leaking into the main space. Secure your apps with App locker Want to enhance the privacy of your chat, payment, and other personal applications? Here's how: 1. Add a secure "lock" to your applications to thwart unauthorized access. Navigate to Settings>Apps>App locker to apply an app lock. 2. After applying the lock, every entry to the app will require verification via fingerprint, pattern, etc., ensuring enhanced security. QUOTE Private spaces are not suitable for apps that need to run in the background or send critical notifications, such as medical apps. This is because notifications and background activity are stopped when your space is locked. Apps in your private space won't appear in permission manager, privacy dashboard, and other settings when private space is locked. Your private space can't be restored to a new device. You'll need to set up another space if you want to use it on another device. Anyone that connects your device to a computer or installs malicious apps on your device may be able to access your private space. dev/numb liked this post

These are the info of private space that Nothing put when go to the setting Also additional notes in the private space Android’s own Privacy Space is much more powerful since you have to create a fully separate Google account to use it and cannot move/clone apps in and out of it. If Nothing implemented Google’s version, I could, in theory, fully degoogle my main profile (remove Google Play Services also) using Shizuku + Canta*, and just silo all the “dirty” apps (like WhatsApp) into the private space and set it to remain unlocked (to receive notifications) until phone is restarted, all without needing to root. *also plan to remove that Essential Space/Recorder function and remap the key, since I have no interest in training their AI for free. Currently studying ppq.ai and nano-gpt APIs so maybe I can remap that button to launch a script for their service to proxy my queries. Either way, I only plan to buy after seeing what Nothing OS 4.0 offers. If they move to Android’s original privacy space, would be nice. |

Nothing's Essential Space is very useful, but somehow I always forgot to use it. It is useful to record something that you going to get more information/research about it later on. Example I take a picture of a book I'm interested to know more about it and maybe read in future
![]() It gives the name, author and summary of the book. Also can take a screenshot/photo and add audio/text for reminder when want to do the job. It will then create a task and give notification when reach the time. |

I know we can do it no, but it requires the keymap app to be running in the background at all times, which I don’t like. |

I think now most brands AI stuff runs on their own server, phone hardware just not powerful enough to do the AI stuff. When Nothing OS 4 drops, can you update here if they let us remap that Essential button. I know we can do it no, but it requires the keymap app to be running in the background at all times, which I don’t like. |

https://www.lowyat.net/2025/368725/nothing-...ording-feature/ Nothing Phone (3), Phone (3a) Series Gains Call Recording Feature Nothing has rolled out a new update for its Essential Space app that introduces an audio call recording feature to its latest smartphones. It is available now in eight countries, with Malaysia included in the list. The company confirmed that users can now record voice calls directly from the interface by long-pressing the Essential Key or tapping the “Start recording” option that appears in the call notification. Once the call ends, the recording will automatically be saved within Essential Space for later playback. For now, the call recording capability is limited to the Nothing Phone (3), Phone (3a), and Phone (3a) Pro models. According to Nothing, the rollout is being done automatically without requiring users to install a manual update, so those who’ve recently updated the aforementioned models will have access to it now. xxboxx liked this post

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Oct 29 2025, 01:57 PM) I uses it every night after close all room light as the glyph light not so bright so it won't disrupt my family members. Only few days from got the phone I play with glyph matrix, after that never bother with it anymore. Essential button is more useful for me, I use it to record down data for later digestion. With the AI it can help to expand more on the data. Example I'll take a photo in Essential of a book cover that I might be interested to read. When I open later in Essential Space, it have added more info about the book such as description and it's author, I don't need to manually Google the information. It also can create task in the app itself or add into Calendar if it detect there's mention of something need to be done. |

only today had chance to use the essential button. good idea, probably will use it more.
the volume button mapping is abit annoying to me. from lowest step to from mute to 1 step up jumps too mch. then on louder end, not loud enough without the bassy echoey sound. Like OOS, NOS is easy to use. somehow games seems to load faster than my s22u. |

So after about a week over all the phone feels very fast and decent only
few complaints 1 camera (app) cannot permanently disable autoHDR. 2 after reboot when connecting to car head unit via bluetooth need to up volume and press OK 3 apps under private space does not register in usage data? 4 essential space seems to throw everything to ai, no option to disable or let users choose which to exclude or select. so far couldn't get essential recorder to work yet, will drive into it this week 5 call recording... AI again.. I just want to record voice call, no need send to AI to transcribe, how to disable it? I do miss Modes & Routines and OneHandOperation+ from OneUi8 |

This way of recording won't have AI recognition and transcribe unless you run the AI analysis. 5 same as above, it only record but didn't run the AI analysis |

I dont want AI to transcribe my personal details, but Im sure my personal details are floating in the many databases online. on sound front, I listen to spotify on car radio and iem's in office so its big part of the experience for me. I mst say the sound processing is a bit flat for me. still need to get to tweaking. prev phone had many features baked in so no need to hunt for third party. another strange thing I noticed is that the AOD clock. the beautiful stock one seems to get replaced by stock android one... not sure how to trigger it yet. needs more observations. hows 4.0 treating everyone so far.
its been kinda good for me. battery life is still very strong and proper, even going down to 10% still no anxiety. is it because of the new silicon carbon battery? anyone using their phone to connect to car radio via bluetooth ? hows the experience been ? |

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Nov 25 2025, 09:11 AM) hows 4.0 treating everyone so far. I was surprised when the update says it's 4.0its been kinda good for me. battery life is still very strong and proper, even going down to 10% still no anxiety. is it because of the new silicon carbon battery? anyone using their phone to connect to car radio via bluetooth ? hows the experience been ? I thought still 1 or 2 months before getting version bump since Nothing haven't hype much about 4.0 Status bar getting more rounded and fat icons looks nice, getting more similar to iPhone. Battery wise didn't notice if have difference. But I before this also didn't monitor my battery drains so it might have improve just that I didn't notice it. I didn't use it for car radio so no idea on that. I'm not sure start from 4.0 or it's always been like this, my smart watch and phone doesn't sync DND. On previous phone both are linked, I can turn on DND from my watch. And even if I turn on DND from phone, the watch also shows DND is on and I can turn it off from the watch. Now both devices DND are like not related to each others. I notice Camera app now remember the last setting as long as it still in the memory. I choose 3x zoom, change to few other apps and open back Camera, it still in 3x zoom. |
