Yes, if you're a fan of Carl Pei from the OnePlus heydays you might be tempted to buy Nothing Fon

Personally think Nothing should stick to the 3a/3aPro price segment. They do well there in terms of price:spec:styling:software balance. Trying to compete in the higher end and they will lose out in one form or another in the eyes of spec people.

I do like their software — if my router and wireshark logs from testing a friend’s 3a Pro are anything to go by, Nothing OS is a lot better than most Android makers in terms of privacy* (excluding all the phoning home done by Google services, obviously) — and their security update promises seem to be in line with most competitors, but they are definitely not ready for the upper end of the market yet.

Currently searching for a replacement ‘dirty’ daily device (anything with Meta and Google apps installed is considered dirty in my book), and since a Pixel with GrapheneOS has too many unknowns in terms of banking or insurance app compatibility (also because Pixel hardware reliability is a bit crap in my experience), I’m looking for the next best thing. If I go with Nothing, it will probably be a 3a or 3a Pro. Won’t even bother with this so called ‘flagship’ model.

*although that Nothing Chats security fiasco still leaves me a bit suspicious of them

Didn't even know have burn in issue. Spend few hours transferring data and luckily no burn in. Also no overheating so far, but I didn't play any game so it might be different for others.

I tried the 3a few months back... Just bought the 3a Pro... Much better value than the 3🤮

I was contemplating to get 3A Pro specifically because of it's 6x optical zoom but the CPU is slightly slower than my current 3 years old phone and it also cannot record 4k60fps. Only 3 major OS upgrade also a downer. Phone 3 double the CPU performance so hopefully can use for 5 years.

Better ger the poco f7 if your budget not much

I’m considering the regular 3a. Looks better, imho (especially the blue or white). Cameras aren’t important to me. Only use em for document scanning and QR codes most of the time. OS updates aren’t a concern for me since Nothing still promises 6yrs of security updates. Heck, with Google trying to shove Gemini down our throats, I would actually prefer to stay on Android 15 and just receive the security updates. Not that I see myself keeping a phone that long anyway. Only downside is lack of e-sim support on the 3a. Lack of Nothing service centres is also a concern, but the phone is cheap so not much of a loss if need to buang a year down the line.

For me their hardware is okay. It’s the software I hate. So much bloatware. China brands in particular are a joke. A friend once came over with his kid who had a Poco and asked to join my wifi, and later my router firewall logs showed all sorts of sketchy links the Poco was trying to phone home to. Only way to clean up a China phone is to root and flash, but then you will struggle with banking and finance apps. At least with NothingOS, it’s pretty much stock Android with some skinning. I can easily debloat and harden using Shizuku and Canta without having to unlock bootloader.

Highly agree on this point , sometime people too concert about software support , let me tell u , u wont be happy on the latest software on your old phone especially your phone SoC arent into flagship level , it will slow down your phone and drain your battery quickly , promise of security update will be more important than the major update , the best OS for your phone was actually the one out of box , because that the only OS fully optimize for your phone , and most of the time major update on old phone wont get great optimization and causing alot of problem.

In my opinion , 2 year Major OS stil usable , max 3 , even my fren who using iphone 14 pro max regret of updating to iOS18 because the stupid photo album + battery drain , imagine once iOS26 came out with liquid glass , do u think it will ok on iphone 14promax?

Trust me , no any OS will be better than straight out of box.
