PUTRAJAYA, June 10 — Security guards do not have the authority or right to request, hold or scan the identity card (MyKad) of the public, according to the National Registration Department (NRD).

NRD in a statement to Bernama said only five categories of officers are allowed to do so under Regulation 7(1), National Registration Regulations 1990, namely NRD officers, police officers, customs officers, military personnel on duty, as well as civil servants authorised by the Director General of National Registration.


“Any action by security guards to request or keep identity cards is against the law and action can be taken,” it said.

Unless NRD provide a channel to report doubt any change will happen. Putting out a statement is not enough when it's not backed by enforcement actions

This is not the first time this Ic issue is brought up. Nothing happen last time, nothing will happen this time.

Driving license?

Yes, security guard cannot, but auxiliary police still can. Be careful when u guys show your IC to security guard, especially the taman one. Most security companies are not even registered with KDN, and some of them just renting license. Most of them are run by gangsters too. So be careful, God knows what will they do with the photo of your IC

i guess u can show the digital license to the guards but then they have to take your phone. hell no

My place just need write the IC number, car plate, phone number.....and visit which unit....
Cos last time got many cincai go in and park on other owner car park....
So unit owner also use the public water to open wash car business....

JPN and PDRM should do building and condo check and arrest the security guards that do this

the answer has already existed for years.. only that it costs some money and the premises don't want to spend..
most modern buildings, ask for identification.. key in the data and return to you.. some housing taman, has a scanner, you give the identification, they scan and return to you..
am sure you have encountered similar procedures.. just that perhaps the guard used improper term and the visitor, mistook that IC is required

Go try go buy sport toto, the prohibited people sitting near the coffeeshop waiting. Once they enter the gambling shop & caught. They just check the IC, sometimes the enforcement got spy around waiting for right time to strike.

well, eventhou JPN said so, good luck trying to argue with not so well informed security guards about that matter, and expect to be denied entry if failing to do so because they just follow what their bosses said.
