Austronesian people share haplogroup O1a1 (M119) and linguistic markers....but they have diverse culture and of different ethnicities.

Malay is just an Austronesian ethnicity
Jawa is also an Austronesian ethnicity

So, Jawa is not Malay

When talking about genetics, then need to specify time-frame. My time-frame is starting from the "Out of Formosa" hypothesis, since aboriginal Taiwanese have haplogroup O1a1 (M119) as well, it is likely they are the originator of that haplogroup.

Common ancestors of Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Austronesians have the Haplogroup O....at that time, these ancestors are not Chinese or any ethnicity we recognize today.

Without specific time-frame, we can say....we are all Africans.

The concept of Bangsa (People) has been intermixed with Kaum (race) in casual speech that it muddles our understanding of what it actually is.

In Malaysia, Bangsa denotes the collective people who are citizens of Malaysia. Therefore, Bangsa Malaysia refers to all of us Malaysians. This was made officially in 1990 by Mahathir, to securely place everyone under one collective term. It's a Civic Nation concept.

Under Bangsa Malaysia, we have race or ethnic groups, in BM called KAUM. Hence we have kaum Melayu, Cina, India, Kadazan etc.

So where do Bangsa Melayu come from? Well, this goes waaaaay decades before the formation of Malaysia. We used to have Tanah Melayu or Malaya, hence the people of Tanah Melayu (who are predominantly Malays) are called Bangsa Melayu. This is an Ethno-Cultural Nation concept.

Having said that, there are many terms in our constitution that was not updated or streamlined, which made it even more confusing.

Does a country called Tanah Melayu exists before?

As far as our history, most of the states in Peninsula Malaysia is independent after the fall of Kesultanan Melaka

So, who is actually the real Malays?

Are Javanese, Bugis, etc. also Malays?
