QUOTE(say_xtr @ Jun 10 2025, 09:20 AM) Morning all Finally, my Dyson v11 not working anymore after 5 years as the motor make 'duhh duhh duhh' sound when press the buttton. Send it to non-authorized service center and they quote me 900++ to change the motor. Anyone change the motor by yourself before? Coz I found the motor in Shopee original around 400+ and compatible around 200+ only. Wanna know if there any successful story here changed the motor before, coz I have all the tools. Scared to check Dyson service center in TTDI, sure the repair price almost as new. RM900 for motor change? It is just because Dyson stuff are expensive. Internally, the electronics are simple only. Some higher end one use expensive coating to protect boards from moisture. The motor is probably not even RM100. They are sourced from China. My factory made many PCB assemblies fro Dyson before it is sent to a plastic company in Johor for complete assembly. I'm responsible to estimate cost to produce the PCBAs. I think it is not difficult to replace the motor yourself if you can observe the right sequence. I only dismantle bladeless fan long time ago when Dyson first start its product. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble it together. To be honest I do not own any Dyson product because for me it is too overpriced. Not saying the quality is bad too expensive for practical consumer product for me.

QUOTE(say_xtr @ Jun 10 2025, 09:51 AM) The repairman said the motor damage due to water but the weird part is I deep clean the unit before send for repair and didnt see any trace of water. I take out the parts most of it but didnt touch the motor, till end I still cannot see trace of water or moisture. I wont buy dyson as u said its overprice but this unit bought when I was in States and during boxing day + cybermonday sale around $179 with 12 months installment 0% interest. Its quite a deal I think so I grab it. Motor is just coil, carbon brush, commutator and magnet (for DC and brushless type). Water will not damage it. It is not AC 250 motor in Dyson to cause short circuit. Probably it is just wear and tear on commutator. Repair technician can give any reason to customer. The point is just to tell you the motor need change. I think in 3rd world countries or poorer countries, the repair menas rewinding motor, replace commutator, etc. We are in stage of replacing parts, not really "repair"> next stage is buy new one Wow means the repairman quote me same as Dyson service center price hahahah damnI think any authorized repair center will have standard price for repair stated by Dyson. This goes to any other brand, unless you go for unauthorized party especially after warranty

QUOTE(Virlution @ Jun 10 2025, 10:50 AM) anyone got dyson with battery that last more then 4 years? Majority of articles in Internet are telling that the lithium battery life does not really depend on how long it has been used but rather how many time it has been recharge. Most articles said the lifetime is at 500 time recharging, but I think nowadays the number is more than that due to advancement in technology.

QUOTE(sexysarah1992 @ Jun 10 2025, 11:50 AM) Whats expensive is the labour costs & the R&D behind Dyson technology . The part is cheap because its from China. The electronics look simple because Dyson have invested huge R&D to make it simple. Dyson is assembled in Malaysia , parts from China but they follow strictly the technology & manuals from Dyson U want cheap, can just buy the part from Shopee and fix yourself. Less than 400 I am using Dyson as well. Best vacuum i have ever used I worked in factory. I can know how much it cost to make one. The R&D cost maybe high during development time but then reduced over time because basic circuitry design is the same. However, Dyson has many engineers to pay salary for each different models and groups of product but many share the same basic design. The circuitry is not complex like product from other customers of us. We are also involved in giving feedback to Dyson on maneuverability (DFM) during design stage. I'm not saying those buy Dyson is stupid or anything but for me it is just not good for price/value for me.

QUOTE(sexysarah1992 @ Jun 10 2025, 02:29 PM) You cant just count the raw material costs. There are so many other costs R&D costs Manufacturing plant costs Raw materials costs Labour costs Licensing costs Salaries Utilities costs Logistics costs Marketing costs Etc etc Manufacturing plant cost, Raw Material Cost, Labor Cost, Licensing Cost, etc are not under Dyson costs already because they outsource the PCBA and complete assembly. These are under the contract manufacturer. Logistic, Marketing, etc are generally the same like other manufacturer with similar products. Main cost for Dyson is basically R&D. I used to work in a US company with staff around 100 person only, producing telecommunication product. The PCBA and other mechanical parts are being outsource. Final assembly and testing is done in company factory. We were making like USD30 mil. I would say huge margin compare to cost because product is not end consumer product but communication industry players. Provide 2 years warranty. Unlike end consumer products, you do not need to come up with new model every year like smartphone I'd say Dyson has established to put its name as luxury item like Apple. Marketing is good so the consumer are willing to pay to its price.

QUOTE(ozak @ Jun 10 2025, 07:08 PM) The important is, do not suck fine concrete dust or those construction dust. This dust is abrasive and easily go into the bearing, wear the fan fin, motor etc. No vacuum can survive for long. Yes. For this purpose buy cheap wet dry type Any vacuum that suctions air into fine bubbles though water as filtering agent instead of fiber? I think this will keep constant suction power?
