Hello. I have been using Maybank for many years and want to change to another bank that is easier to use from overseas. Maybank has been increasingly challenging to maintain and operate from outside Malaysia. So I am hoping for recommendations for a bank that:

-Has mastercard/visa debit card that can be used from overseas
-Able to register a non-Malaysian mobile for security codes etc

Thanks!

Yes I have thought about it but prefer a brick mortar bank that can be operated mostly from overseas. I only return to KL maybe once a year.

Can try gxbank. It's a digital bank. Whether they accept foreign number is another question.

Open a bank in the country that you are staying is easier. FATF countries have something similar to AML / CFT to prevent financial crimes.

I don't think any Malaysia bank allows foreign number.

Since you are going overseas and wanna do banking all, I'm sure you can afford one cheap postpaid or prepaid plan, and a cheap phone. You only need it for sms during setup and you can setup the bank app on your main phone.

Hotlink also has 365 validity.

From what I know

Foreign numbers cannot register in Malaysia banks...

Why not just open account with your local country banks... Much easier...

Also you said once per year only comes to KL... So majority time is on others country....

I read before, ...using this device overseas does not requires a malaysia registered phone number to do banking transaction.

The battery may last a few years, .so depending on usage, just replace the device when you come back.

Banks is very stringent these days in order to curb money laundering etc etc..

Just get your company to issue letter for you to open up account in whichever country that you currently in.

If you can’t provide those, internet bank is the way to go

True. The bank officer that I met recently, told me that they were tired in handling bank account opening. Too many works to do and to ask questions, to interview etc.

Their mindset is to suspect everyone who comes to open account is for illegal sources, then from the interviews, they need to get evidences to prove otherwise.

But most of the time, legit one kena filter out and those who do for those illegal one can open. Reason is very simple. When someone wanna cheats you, there have many ways to do so.

You are correct.

Furthermore, this Public Bank SecureSign Token (Hardware Token) does not require internet connection to generate SecureSign code (which is the One-Time PIN).

Well, Public Bank still provides SecureSign Token (Hardware Token) for PB customers who request for it.

As an individual customer, I am still using Public Bank SecureSign Token (Hardware Token), without using MyPB App.

At least in this aspect, Public Bank is better than other banks in Malaysia, because Public Bank still provides the hardware token.

Better for especially those old folk or those not familiar with apps....

IINM they are the only one now still giving out the device

Last time HSBC was the one made compulsory but also changed to app

I went to the branch to get one for my Basic SA when they made OTP obsolete

Save me from installing one more app in my phone

what is your real purpose? i mean how is Maybank more challenging to maintain and operate?

usually, wise will be your intermediate finance platform, which connect international banks to local banks.

I changed my phone and have to register Secure2u for maybank and Secure Plus on RHB
Both on normal operation I will have to go to the nearest ATM. But since I'm oversea, I was unable to.

Maybank allow me to change my phone number to my Japan local number, and make a call from my Japan phone number to customer center to activate Secure2u.

RHB is not flexible at all, and only way to activate it is to call it from the Malaysia phone number they have on file. Its not like I did not try. but calling them puts me on a 15 minute queue, and calling back home on XOX cost I think RM 12 for 30 seconds or a minute. I was on the phone for 5 minutes or so, and habis RM50 top up.

It seems that Maybank also has an account which can be opened fully online, called Maybank Premier I live overseas and would like to know if you can fully open it from abroad.
