The windowing system and multitasking view is long overdue. Maybe this is first step to have a foldable iPhone?

Tried on my ipad air 5th gen. Loving it. The multitasking is more like a real mac now. Windows resizing also good. Still buggy but can daily drive without issue also.
Wanna ask if anyone tried it on ipad air 4 and ipad a16? Do they support multitsk window as well? |

QUOTE(yvliew @ Jun 16 2025, 06:15 PM) couple of relaunch springboard but nothing serious. Don't feel slow on my iPad Air M1. Can be used a daily drive. Nice...that's good to know. I was an iPad Pro user back in the day, trying to daily drive as laptop. Definitely lots of setbacks and it was slow(powerful chip but limited by iPadOS), ended up selling to get a MBA. |

No need to get one. But I think 13" makes more sense than 11" la. 11" is quite small to multitask. But if need some apps to run in background, definitely works great now. ultra_nyamuk liked this post

QUOTE(un_id @ Jun 16 2025, 10:45 PM) Nice! This makes a big difference when using for office works. Many times we open multiple documents to cross reference. Its a pain in the ass when you can only open one document at a time Yeah I think iPadOS had the biggest upgrade from WWDC. Even iPad 11 A16 works with windows. Apple at least redeemed themselves a bit from all the AI fail. Skeuomorphic liked this post

QUOTE(alternativehype @ Sep 15 2025, 04:14 PM) You are very brave. For main device I wouldn’t dare install a new version of iOS/iPadOS at least until x.0.2 or x.1. For 26 already the developer for one of my important Safari extension has warned users about some unfixed Webkit bugs. My VPN provider also sent warning about some TunnelKit regression. Definitely will wait until at least 26.1 this time. |

What is the reason for Apple releasing version 18.7, and at the same time, offering the option for version 26?

Goodbye Split View & Slide Over. You will be missed. The multitasking is dead, long live the multitasking!
I got 2 apps that I always use on split view. Each time I click the app's icon, it will open both apps in split view. It will always remember both apps last state in split view. Occasionally I'll use a third app by sliding over. It also will always remember which apps in slide over. Now it's replaced by Windowed Apps. While this makes it more like desktop experience where app window can be freely resize and move anywhere, it can't remember both apps in split view unless that is the last combo apps you have opened. Also no more slide over, now to use third app I have to open Recent App List or click on it's icon. More steps than slide over. Now the only way to get it remember 2 apps in split view is by using Stage Manager. No matter how many apps I have opened, when I click one of the app icon, it will open both apps in split view. I feel Apple purposely kill Split View & Slide Over so that those that like this option have to use it's Stage Manager that many dislike to use before this. To use third app now have to swipe from left part of the screen to show Recent App, which also means now cannot use swipe to go back. |

I dunno but I think it feels a bit wonky.. mouse tracking feels unnatural.. and the overall interface doesn’t feel really smooth when having multiwindows opened.. not sure if my ipad air 5th (M1) doesn’t have enough ram headroom for proper multitasking lah.. My ipad feel very hot when connected with external display while I’m “pretending” to do office works on it (opened file apps and multiple documents). Then it throttled down and feels very sluggish.. lol.. the M processor branding on ipad is a scam I think.. nvm then, back to my macbook for work

QUOTE(byen8888 @ Sep 30 2025, 12:50 PM) M chip is good but technically i am ok with the A chip as A chip on the new iphone 17 is also quite powerful enough. As long as they give more RAM which is more critical to help to make the ipad last longer around of iOS update. the display and pro motion will be an instant noticeable update. |

Yay, iPadOS 26.1 will bring back Slide Over!! https://www.macrumors.com/2025/10/06/ipados...r-multitasking/ On my iPad mini, I’d gotten so used to sliding my Apple Music window in and out with previous iPadOS versions (almost like muscle memory) that the lack of it in 26 has been supremely irritating. Glad it’s coming back. Downside is that Slide Over on iPadOS 26 is limited to one window only, so I cannot flip between Apple Music, Mullvad, Things and Calculator like I usually did in the past. QUOTE(dev/numb @ Oct 7 2025, 03:00 PM) Yay, iPadOS 26.1 will bring back Slide Over!! I changed to developer beta channel and installing this right now. Need to download whole OS. Been using Stage Manager with secondary app in another group, a bit troublesome to switch between main group and secondary group.https://www.macrumors.com/2025/10/06/ipados...r-multitasking/ On my iPad mini, I’d gotten so used to sliding my Apple Music window in and out with previous iPadOS versions (almost like muscle memory) that the lack of it in 26 has been supremely irritating. Glad it’s coming back. Downside is that Slide Over on iPadOS 26 is limited to one window only, so I cannot flip between Apple Music, Mullvad, Things and Calculator like I usually did in the past. Boo Maybe now 1 window but maybe they'll update in future to allow more windows QUOTE iPadOS 26.1 developer beta 2 has restored Slide Over multitasking to the iPad. And it works alongside the new windowing system. When viewing an app’s window resize controls (inside the green traffic light option in the top-left corner), Apple has added a new ‘Enter Slide Over’ option. This button resizes the window to a typical Slide Over size, and lets you work inside any apps in the background without hiding the Slide Over app from view. You can also, of course, swipe the app to the right to hide it out of view, pulling it back in when you need it. And you can now resize the Slide Over window to your liking, which is a new benefit. There does appear to be one big feature missing though, at least in beta 2: you can currently only have a single Slide Over app at a time. https://9to5mac.com/2025/10/06/ipados-26-1-...g-back-to-ipad/ dev/numb liked this post
