Yes, that is the risk that one needs to take if considering a Nissan. Existing or potential customers can just hope Tan Chong will remain to exist. Perhaps when I'm visiting an outlet for a test-drive session in the near future, likely before end of this year I'll ask the salesperson whom I bought the Almera from. She's introduced to me by someone close and a long-timer with Tan Chong Nissan having worked there for more than 10 years.
I've read various comments about the Kicks being an old model, being introduced late to Malaysia where they already have the vehicle much earlier in Singapore or Thailand. That is a valid comment but to me it doesn't matter or bother me. As long as the vehicle is good and appealing for the features that are useful to the user, that is all that matters. I have had a look at the new Kicks model which I believe is solely for the US market and actually prefer the looks of the current Kicks than this new US version of the Kicks. As long as the vehicle is practical with the plus points outweighing the minus points, one can't complain much especially for the rather modest down-to-earth pricing. At a price of RM108k-119k after rebate, it's competitive as long as one doesn't compare it to the Chinese vehicles. The Honda, Toyota and Mazda equivalents are priced significantly higher and not to forget Honda and Toyota are CKD locally while the Kicks is CBU from Thailand.
I m driving the SG version for 3yrs already.. avoid a chinese made version including P1 geely rebadge version.. Kicks doesn't suffer the Jatco AT issue, so its basically problem free but must park under covered carparks! Engine a lot of plastic parts and can become brittle if park under the hot sun on daily for years similar for any model cars...
