
The Konek-class (Russian: Конек; English: "Seahorse") submarine is a class of submarine LST produced by Tabi'atstan and in service with the Tabi'atstani Revolutionary Navy.
Description
The Konek-class is designed for the clandestine delivery of marines and their equipment on enemy shores the transport of munitions, fuel, and other provisions, the evacuation of troops and the wounded, and minelaying. The vessel makes use of a unique three-shell structure, with the central hull containing the six 533 mm torpedo launchers, two 57 mm cannons, troops and two reactors, and the two side hulls holding up to 20 amphibious tanks or armoured vehicles.
The Konek-class can carry 800 marines and four personnel carriers or 250 commandos, ten amphibious tanks, and ten personnel carriers. A bow ramp allows for quick delivery of the submarine's cargo after it has beached itself.
The Konek-class can also conduct rescue missions to save crews of sunken submarines using underwater vehicles.
History
The development of the Konek-class began in 1965 and underwent numerous redesigns until a basic final design was chosen in 1969 which was approved in early 1970 and completed in October 1971.
