Be realistic. You think the person who does the firing owns the business ? It's some middle management salary guy to has to do the unsavory job after the shit trickle down.

Some white lies need to be told so that people's feelings and pride are intact and they can move on in peace.

which is ironic too, they prolly lie on the profits as well

most common cases like in my company townhall goes like "we make record revenue this year! thank you all for your hard work!"

then when comes to perf review that same year "im sorry but due to organisation restructuring we cannot afford an increment for you"

Last time. Boss give me increament rm 74 only. He give funny reason. This increament very high already if wanna compare with nearby factory. And this is small factory so he can only give me rm 74 increament

After 2 years plus.. im straight away resigned and join goverment.

Just went i give resign letter. He try so hard to make me stay there. Im just anwer im not interested to work here anymore. Because the salary so low..

On an individual level, there are only 2 reason to fire anyone.

A. Cannot perform.
There is a lengthy process to try and rectify this if employee under Employment Act.

B. Breach of contract.
If employee done something wrong, like harrass someone.

It is very exhaustive process to hire, onboard, train, measure, reward a staff. All that investment means staff needs to be retained to generate returns

On a corporate level, there are another 2 reasons to fire anyone.

A. Business direction change
Eg. Company moving away from a market say cars and has sold off the automobile division. So up to new owner to pick amd offer any existing staff

B. Replacement can be found at cheaper cost. Say outsource IT function hence remove all internal IT staff.

Hence, even if a staff performs well internally, still subject to external circumstances and job security must never be taken for granted. Always have plan B
