QUOTE The crew immediately initiated emergency firefighting procedures using the vessel’s onboard fire suppression systems. However, despite their efforts, the situation could not be brought under control,” the Zodiac Maritime statement read. According to the video, ICE cars are shipped with nearly empty fuel tanks. Can't do that with EVs. |

QUOTE(river.sand @ Jun 5 2025, 12:46 PM) QUOTE(moiskyrie @ Jun 5 2025, 12:52 PM) Japantimes sudah start tembak liao. I'm going to make educated guess that current firefighting systems on shipping vessels are not designed to deal with EV fires. Doesn't matter whether ICE car or EV started the fire, if the fire spreads and the EVs catch fire, then this is the result - fire cannot be put out and the ship has to be abandoned.QUOTE Fires involving EVs are often harder to extinguish and more dangerous to fight. The conditions of a tightly packed car-carrying cargo ship lead to limited ventilation, which can rapidly intensify heat. The confined, steel-lined environment makes fire suppression and rescues significantly more dangerous. Additionally, when an electric vehicle burns, it does so for longer and the fire gets hotter. The flames can end up accelerating through chain reactions and spiraling out of control quickly, a process called thermal runaway. EV fires can take up to 30,000 liters of water to cool the lithium-ion batteries. In 2022, a vessel carrying about 4,000 vehicles caught fire in the Atlantic and ended up sinking despite efforts to tow it to safety. A year later, another ship with close to 3,000 cars on board caught fire near the Dutch coast. Shipowners have taken steps to try to manage the safety risks involved in hauling electric vehicles. Last year, a key safety group published guidelines on how to deal with fires on board the vessels. |

QUOTE(anakkk @ Jun 25 2025, 06:11 PM) Our human waste got toxic heavy metals, no right ? Salt can neutralize heavy metals meh ? If can, then how come got research papers by universities indicate that kupang hijau has the highest levels of toxic metals detected in them ?This post has been edited by Roman Catholic: Jun 25 2025, 06:16 PM |

QUOTE(diffyhelman2 @ Jun 25 2025, 06:03 PM) That ship only had 70 pure EV and 600 hybrids. But the fire caused by lithium batteries. Imagine those byd super size ships carrying tens of thousands of pure EVs in future Nobody really knows what caused this ship fire. All speculation. Just like the 2023 MV Freemantle Highway ship fire quickly blamed on EVs. But after the ship was brought back to shore, all the EVs were found to be intact.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Fremantle_Highway QUOTE There has been much speculation that the battery pack from an electric car caused the fire, but this proved to be wrong when offloading the ship. Around 1,000 cars were recovered in essentially good condition - among them all the 498 electrical cars which were on board the ship. However, the cause of the fire is unknown. Investigations started when the ship was moored in Eemshaven. |

QUOTE(diffyhelman2 @ Jun 25 2025, 05:22 PM) update. Sunk liao. I wonder how many carbon credits went down with that ship. if lets say 1 in 1000 EV ship car carrier sink, will that offset any CO2 savings from EVs? My colleague from Thailand is calling this ev zero carbon thing bullshit. She is from chiangmai area. This is what she saidhttps://edition.cnn.com/2025/06/24/us/morni...orthern-pacific Anchorage, Alaska (AP) — A cargo ship that had been delivering new vehicles to Mexico sank in the North Pacific Ocean, weeks after crew members abandoned ship when they couldn’t extinguish an onboard fire that left the carrier dead in the water. 1. Near Cambodia border. China is doing some mining in rear earth thingy and contaminated the river inthailand. Fish mutated. Now the citizen are furious with their gov 2. All the big batteries cannot be recycled. And Japan will obly take back batteries that are produce by Japanese car. Good luck for other cars Well she said that. And I believe it's has some credibility. We only see yhe end product of ev as clean. |

If you say the EV's motor needs rare earth metals, that's correct. But so many devices in the world also contain rare-earth metals especially motors including ICE cars, planes and even hard disks, so why blame on EVs alone? 2. All EV batteries can be recycled, especially by China. But stupid Thai people maybe don't know how to do it. |
