Cisco Systems, founded in 1984 by Stanford University computer scientists Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, revolutionized networking with its multi-protocol router, enabling disparate computer networks to communicate seamlessly. Their product families now span diverse areas, including enterprise and service provider solutions (routers, switches, wireless, security), small business offerings, and home user products. Cisco has consistently achieved market leadership in networking equipment and software, expanding into data center, collaboration, and IoT solutions. Key achievements include pioneering commercial routers, developing the Catalyst series of switches, acquiring companies like Selsius Systems for VoIP dominance, and making significant strides in AI and cloud-native networking with recent acquisitions like Splunk and Isovalent. Today, Cisco remains a dominant force, continually innovating to connect and secure the digital world.

Finally a Cisco thread.

About pre-sales support, isn't it a Cisco way to call your account manager?
For post sales, isn't it a Cisco way to use SmartNet and press 1 if you have a network downtime of more than 1 minute?

Been in this industry long enough I have a lot of personal opinion about Cisco.

Needing DNA-Advantage just to do BGP is the most absurd thing ever

To be fair to Cisco this was an industry wide problem due to capacitor plague.
There's a wiki on this:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

I still remember during that time period, reliability for all vendors were down the drain.
The good thing about Cisco is they send replacement to your door in 4 hours.

I see... no wonder my print server keep acting up... I had to open up the damn thing and replace the capacitor. Last year I also open it up again after it refused to work properly and replace the capacitor again. Damn thing has been working for over 20 years. I want to replace it also cannot find anyone selling dual parallel port print server anymore.

The EOL announcement was October 2020. After that announcement nobody will buy it anymore and all the Cisco shop will typically starts unloading them.

So what's your switch manufacturing date? Is it brand new or refurbished unit? Everything you get as replacement are refurbished.
Everything after the announcement date could also be them unloading refurbished unit.

Actually since a dead Cisco is a problem, do you have a service contract to begin with? Worst case scenario you get a replacement next business day.

Cisco is not worth the money without service contract. Do not fall into the trap of buying it just for the name.

For your information, Cisco catalyst 2960 is the model which is reliable.

If you found the unit port spoil easily, i think this cause by power supply.

From my experience, most of the problem cause by the PoE switch.

You may share more info or serial number.

We may discuss this further.

Haha...

I'm not in the position as account manager.

I will more to technical specification and integration. More close to presales rather than postsales.

Regards the smartnet, this is the SLA service that promise from Cisco to the user.

If you have question for DNA, you may raise up here.

For those want know the spec and model, I can free check for all the serial number of the cisco appliances.

If it not in cisco system, maybe the unit already whitelist or scap from cisco side.

Not one but about 10 I think already for last two year I see when my device need to connect to this cisco switches model.

I cannot share serial number since the site is confidential and also its not our bought device. Its installation by previous vendor. Now we use cisco1300

I see.

But just for your information, Cisco switch will do one to one swap if the unit still comes with active smartnet subscription.

C1300 is SMB switch. And no need subscribe for DNA license. But it is full layer 2 switch and limited L3 feature.

Good to use since it is coming with limited lifetime warranty.

What's your company policy for networking equipment lifecycle tho

We start the budgeting and procurement process once the switches are more than 7 years and usually die die must get it replaced before they reach 10 years

Never had a switch hardware issue yet
