I have been working in family owned company for almost 4 years. And my current salary is RM2K. How much should I ask for salary increase? Is RM2.8K reasonable?

Goodness, where do you see yourself in the next five years? If you don't have a clear vision, it might be wise to explore opportunities outside. I understand this is a family business, but if there's nothing substantial to discuss or work towards, it might be better to consider leaving.

Do some research what the pay on the market out there for the experience like u and ask for the same.
What if your family business went bad and u need to find a job outside? U will stuck in the situation with fresh grad payslip even with many years of experience . Family business can't guarantee protection to u forever.

Video Editing is very hard to treat it as a full time job.

If you work for large production companies, they will pay more but don't expect to be paid like a regular white collar job.

Also, large production companies have limited vacancies so your next best options are those youtubers or small family owned production companies.

These couldn't pay you much cause they themselves don't earn much. These industries doesn't give much increment and they often keep the cost as low as possible cause they would have just gotten freelance if they could.

In summary, video editor is suitable only for part time while you study for your degree or as a freelance weekend job. There is no career being a video editor.

Hi TS, I'm interested to know how is the trend for video editing is like nowadays.

I used to be a video editor myself, working in SME. That was 5 yrs ago. Paid 2.5. I have sinced then went through various other jobs which I'll not go into.

Past week, while browsing my previohs works, it ignite the spark in me. im looking to step back into the field of videographer. Being 5 years ago d, I'm not sure what have changed in the industry. Seemingly alot more tiktok and short form content is beginning to sprout.

My question:
1. What form of video u shoot / edit mostly?
2. Is your working environment in-house? (Tied to a certain brand) or outsourced media House?
