QUOTE(MR_alien @ Jun 1 2025, 08:07 AM) MCA requests government to lower LPG prices to SMEs, avoid consumers burdened with increased prices of goods, servicesThe Economic Affairs Committee and SMEs MCA received many complaints from associations and business entrepreneurs lately in relation to Ops Gasak conducted by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) starting 1 May 2025. Most of them complain are impressed by the government's new move requiring the use of subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or better known as purple gas barrels to their businesses, particularly beverage and food vendors, laundry and businesses that use LPG. The shift to the use of commercial LPG which costs around RM65 to RM70 for 14kg cylinder, as opposed to RM26.60 to RM30 for subsidized gas, which is an increase in prices by up to 2.5 times has caused an increase in their operating costs while triggering a chain reaction that ultimately affects the citizens as consumers. This was also acknowledged by the Chairman of the Association of Malay Laundry Entrepreneurs (Mula), Zarina Ismail. Thus, the government through KPDN should reconsider and reevaluate this step from various angles, moreover many businesses affected such as small traders and coffee shops operated by individuals from the income group B40 as well as M40, not luxury restaurants. MCA agrees if the entrepreneurs of this business are not allowed from using subsidized LPG worth RM26.60, but at the same time, the MCA also describes that commercial LPG required to them at RM70 per tub is also unreasonable. MCA therefore suggests that more appropriate pricing be introduced so that it does not drastically affect the business entrepreneurs and their consumers or customers especially abstaining B40 and M40. In the near future, the Economic Affairs Committee and SMEs MCA will hold a meeting with the Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors' General Association in relation to this matter. We will also extend the outcome of the meeting to the next government hoping that a win-win solution can be achieved. What's important for MCA, the citizens as consumers should no longer be burdened with the increasing cost of living which is now becoming crippling. It's kinda real if an eateries is using more than 3 cylinders at once. Basically you're allowed to store and use up to 3 cylinders if 14 kg LPG. More than that need to register and that not sure had to use purple or not blanket84 liked this post

the rule mentions the business shouldn't store/use 3 LPG cylinders at a time, and the law was there since 2021.
Unless you are dining out at big restaurant/hotels all the time, shouldn't be affected, and the law was in effect since 2021, restaurants should have follow the law since then, price hike is not an excuse. TS wants to create havoc again. |

QUOTE Yesterday I had lunch at an eatery in PJ. The owner says he uses 4 to 5 gas tanks a day. Say 150 gas tanks a month. He now pays RM3,900 a month for cooking gas. With the price hike to RM70 per tank (the owner said he has to pay RM72 per tank) his gas cost will become RM10,800. That is like paying the rental for another shop altogether. So what is going to happen? Simple. The price of teh tarik is going to go up who knows maybe another 20-30 sen. Roti canai may go up 20 sen or more. Your simple meal (rice, one meat and one vege with a drink) already costs anywhere between RM9.00 to RM15.00. This is going to jump up. Prices of cooked food are going to jump up. People will have to eat less outside. Or pack their own lunch from home. Eateries are going to suffer losses. That mee stall owner will now have to sell 25 bowls of mee just to cover the cost of his two gas tanks. Before the price hike he only has to sell about 10 bowls of mee a day to cover his daily gas cost. He now sells 70 bowls of mee a day. If the price of mee increases by RM1.00 his sales will dip below 70 bowls a day. The stall operators lives are going to become more difficult. What about the makcik nasi lemak or the makcik selling tom yam. Can she afford to pay RM140 cash everyday for say TWO GAS cylinders? Will her warong have that kind of cash flow? Plenty of warongs and restaurants are going to lose their customers. Unless they close one eye against the makcik warong - which happens all the time. Warong people operate everywheres, no need Fomema screening, no need Hepatitis jabs, no need grease traps, no need garbage disposal (just dump it behind the warong). Why do they like to make peoples' lives difficult all the time? Dont forget in July that e-invoice bullshit also kicks in. They will kill off the economy. Food prices are going to go up again. Ordinary peoples' lives are going to become more difficult. Instead of removing the subsidies on cooking gas, the gomen should INCREASE the subsidies on cooking gas. WHY? Because it directly impacts the cost of living for the entire country of 34 million people. |
