Lee Zeldin says the start-stop function, which automakers began installing to reduce emissions in return for federal incentives, annoys most motorists, who consider it “the single worst feature in their motor vehicle.”

“They want it eliminated,” Zeldin told Blake Burman on “The Hill” Thursday.

Democrats say EPA illegally canceled hundreds of grants aimed at boosting ‘environmental justice’
To that end, he said the EPA will seek to revoke its approval of credits that were granted in exchange for the technology’s installation.

The Obama administration originally incentivized start-stop more than a decade ago to improve fuel efficiency. By 2022, an estimated 65% of vehicles in the United States had the feature.

Zeldin suggested the function wouldn’t be so annoying if owners had the option of disabling it wholesale rather than having to do so during each individual trip.

“If it saves a little bit in gas, what is it doing to my starter? What is it doing to my engine? Is it safe?” he said.

checked your car starter edi? One journey last time yiu start car once. Now the car start process is multiplied depending on traffic light n traffic jam. Pretty sure car starter will suffer.

Green agenda is a scam that forces you to fork more money

You spent more money on starter
You spent more money on battery

See the pattern?

Disable it after starting the engine. I do it since I don't notice significant fuel savings

In bezza need to rmbr to press the A button to disable everytime.

In theory good to save fuel. In practice jam means engine stop and start every few mins. Sure GG like this.

and if they're in the mood to look into other things...do we really need e-handbrakes, rain sensors and light sensors? anyone who is incapable of pulling a handbrake or seeing when it's raining/dark may not be safe to drive.

The stop and start function is annoying. Probably, it will cause more wear and tear to the starter and engine as a whole, worst if your stop and start electronic system is non-functioning, that's going to cost you a lot of money to fix. The more features they jam into your car, the more chances of something breaking down and its going to be very costly to fix.

1) 3 pot engine
2) cvt belt
3) steering rack problems
4) start stop function

rain and light sensors i think it's a convenience thing, most drivers dont mind. the light sensor in my car rosak so i just treat it as normal car without the sensor. ie even if rosak, doesnt affect much except inconvenience factors.

elec handbrakes i think half half loh some people like personally i like manual handbrakes better

auto start stop memang useless except making their economy results better in their tests.

those necessary can be made electronically, some pipul really forgot to switch on the headlight at night, some ppl really forgot to pull handbrake. i think this e-XXX thingy is more to safety

does start-stop necessary? it is not a safety features at all.

E-handbrake still needs to be manually engaged, no?
Not can not turn on lights or wipers ourselves. Would be nice if it can automatically turn on. I don’t see any problem with that.
