EVs too many electronics.
Opt for older and simpler ICE cars. Easy to fix and cheap parts.

QUOTE(ameliorate @ May 27 2025, 11:35 AM) Wrong! Too many electronics still compared to ICE. Too many sensors too.EV with simpler electronics only for older first gen ones. EV more towards software than hardware. Software may contain bugs. ICE especially older models mostly on hardware problems which are fixable for cheap and DIY friendly. |

QUOTE(ameliorate @ May 27 2025, 04:53 PM) There are more than 2000 moving parts in an ICE car. Who told you easier to fix? You driving a Datsun? Engine moving parts won't breakdown easily with proper care and maintenance. The number failure for ICE is excessive usage without proper maintenance. EV with multiple electronics will breakdown first. Shorts, weak battery, faulty sensors and more will force any EV into limb or protection modes. By design, EV is simpler than ICE is correct but the operation is very complicated. Ok older ICE, u only need 3 working sensors to start the car namely crank sensor, airflow or MAP and camshaft position sensor. That's all. The car will start and u drive to a workshop for major work done or DIY if capable. On EV, it is mostly software and many many active sensors. U can DIY unless u have the parts and skill to do it. |

QUOTE(PowerSlide @ May 27 2025, 05:01 PM) all going hybrid lol Hybrid only if the cheapest fuel is RM 4-5 per litre. Otherwise don't bother due to excessive electronics and sensors. Hard to diagnose and repair.even fuel cheap here why sell hybrid because industry going this way..so everyone forced to buy it lol even jap hybrid reliable but still many electronics |

QUOTE(haturaya @ May 27 2025, 05:06 PM) And one more drawback of EV - the electronics & software - proprietary. Close system. No way can mod / DIY once they no longer support that model. EV - mechanically simple compared to ICE but electronically complicated and closed. If u replace the ECU and BCM, it is possible but need a lot of R&D. |

QUOTE(ameliorate @ May 27 2025, 08:24 PM) Similar argument people like you make when cars change from manual to auto transmission. You need to get with the times. Ev will get better and better, ice never improves. ICE don't need improvements because it is perfect as it is. With a simple basic ECU, it will start up and run.EV is like an alpha project and always kept evolving. Hardly will reach beta release any time soon. Because it is more software based, it has plenty of bugs. I will move to EV if gomen lets me convert some of the old jalopies like the infamous VR4 or Pajero into EV. From here, I can pick the right controller, batteries and features. |
