I plan to bring my parents for vacation. However, my parents insisted that joining tour guide means less walk as tour bus is provided. If self free and easy, always need to take mrt, walk or find taxi

What do u think of tour guide service? We plan to find a good local tour agency and subscribe their package. However, for me i think self planned is the best.

Anyone gives their insights?

It depends on where you going. I recently visited China twice. Generally they can get better hotel prices. Entrance tickets for places you want to visit also purchased by the tour company at lower prices. Sometimes they have tour group special lanes so you don’t need to queue for a long time. Tour bus brings you from 1 place to another so you don’t need to worry about transport.
The disadvantage - itinerary already fixed, you need to follow the tour group meaning you cannot spend more time at places you preferred.

Depend on location. If Japan like Tokyo Osaka etc thier transport is pretty modern but peak hours your parent need to fight for space

Alternatively can take taxi everywhere

Unless u go remote area that is better with tour or you can get Airbnb packages for trips

One thing I hate with tours is they are rushing everywhere and u can’t soak in the experience

Depends on what you want or don't want and where are you going. Pros and Cons. No straight answers.

If your parents like packaged tour, why not join them and see how it goes.

And other time, DIY with them and let them see how it goes.

As for MRT etc, well, if you have the money many things can be arranged just for you few people.

One thing for sure. Whichever way you choose, your parents will be super happy son taking them for holiday. You can bet on that.

Old folks, better just go with tour. The one you mention " free and easy, always need to take mrt, walk or find taxi" you think your old folks ok ar? If active type go hiking, jogging then go for free and easy. If typical old folks bagun, makan, play phone, better go for tour guide.

1st time to Europe? Maybe the only time?

I suggest not over doing it. Can never cover all Europe in a single trip.

If pick a single city to visit... London. Because english speaking. Easy to get around and many places to see in London alone.

Using London as base, without checking in and checking out of hotels, can do day trips to other places/towns...

Sometimes it is difficult to travel with other people whether friends, siblings or parents.

Everything also boring... go to scenic places, after 2 minutes, enuff dy, let's get back to the car/van/bus and move on.

Go see museums, wat for!!! Boring places...

Go see cathedrals, aiyoh, u christian meh?

Go historical places, why see some big stones?

Not trolling. If you don't understand your own parents and how they like to travel/visit/see, then you shouldn't be doing the planning. Let them select the tours they like, and you just follow along.

Do the things you like another time when traveling alone.

Alternative to package tour for the entire trip is doing it partly on your own and taking guided tours.

You can sign up a guided tour around the city visiting all the major attractions within the city. Also guided day tours to nearby places/towns. (Sometimes the pickup is at the hotel.)

It is still one city at each trip. No need checking in/out everyday. You can also decide to go certain places alone while parents take guided day tours or chill out at a market center or park or cafe or just relax/rest at the hotel.
