Revisions by BYD include paring the price of its Seagull hatchback to 55,800 yuan (US$7,780 or RM32,609), a 20% reduction to a model that was already the carmaker’s cheapest and one that had garnered global attention for its sub-US$10,000 price tag. The Seal dual-motor hybrid sedan saw the biggest price cut at 34%, or by 53,000 yuan to 102,800 yuan.

never thought this post might have a chance of coming true

.
Must also consider shipping costs and conversion costs (from LHD to RHD) when bringing it from CCP China to Malaysia, and Malaysian excise duties/taxes (no more EV tax exemption in 2026).

So, on 1 Jan 2026, the BYD Seagull from CCP China should cost about RM70k (= CKD price), compared to Perodua Axia 1.0GL Automatic at RM39k.
